The retake actions are understood as the actions politically organized by the indigenous population, aimed to occupy traditional areas to which they are not allowed to enter and/or exploit. This analysis discusses the relationship between the ethnicity and territoriality of said tribe, starting especially in the 1980s, inserted within a political inter-social area. Over the past twenty-five years, the land demarcation process of the Tapeba indigenous areas underwent three identification and delimitation studies, all stopped by the Courts. Given the slow progress of the land regularization legal actions and the advance of urbanization over their territory, the land repossession actions have been used by the indigenous people in order to secure a greater control over the territorial management. The social, political and economic disputes are perceived, in the spatial dimension, by the multiple uses and interests that have an effect and overlap over the Tapeba lands. It can be said that the de facto appropriation promoted by said repossession actions secured a considerable improvement in the quality of life and a greater autonomy to those dwelling in or exploiting such lands. / A dissertação aborda as retomadas de terras realizadas pelo povo indígena Tapeba. Com população de aproximadamente seis mil indivíduos, encontra-se dividida em torno do Centro do município de Caucaia, o terceiro maior do Ceará, parte da Região Metropolitana de Fortaleza. Entendem-se como retomadas as ações politicamente organizadas pela população indígena, que tem o objetivo de ocupar áreas tradicionais às quais não lhes é permitido o acesso e/ou o usufruto. A análise apresentada discute a relação entre etnicidade e territorialidade do referido povo, compreendendo-a inserida num campo político intersocietário, sobretudo a partir da década de 1980. Ao longo dos últimos 25 anos, o processo em busca da demarcação da Terra Indígena Tapeba passou por três estudos de identificação e delimitação, todos barrados no campo jurídico. Diante da lentidão nos processos legais de regularização fundiária e do avanço da urbanização sobre seu território, as retomadas de terras têm sido utilizadas pelos indígenas para garantir maior controle na gestão territorial – isso em um contexto no qual as disputas sociais políticas e econômicas, na dimensão espacial, são percebidas pelos múltiplos usos e interesses que incidem e se sobrepõem no território Tapeba. Pode-se afirmar que a apropriação espacial promovida pelas retomadas garantiu considerável melhoria na qualidade de vida e maior autonomia aos que nela habitam ou usufruem.
