Accelerated testing of tidal turbine main bearing in a full scale nacelle test rig

Karikari-Boateng, Kwaku Ampea January 2016 (has links)
Tidal Energy is one of the growing renewable energy technologies that is aimed at tackling global energy challenges. The Horizontal Axis Tidal Turbine (HATT) is an in-stream Tidal Energy Converter (TEC) which extracts kinetic energy from tidal flows. These tidal turbines face many reliability challenges due to their complexity, harsh operating environment and low accessibility. One of the component contributing significantly to the reliability of a TEC is the bearing supporting the rotating shaft within the nacelle. The reliability assessment of this component is essential during the design process and before their eventual deployments. This work is describes shaft bearing reliability assessment procedures. In recent years, the Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult’s National Renewable Energy Centre has developed a dedicated multi axis test facility for full scale testing of tidal turbine nacelles and components (i.e. Nautilus). This work presents a methodology for testing tidal turbine shaft bearings in a representative manner in the full scale nacelle test rig, Nautilus. Two aspects are considered, namely the damage assessment and the damage replication in an accelerated manner. The damage assessment process considers the global loading on the shaft bearing and a Rigid Dynamics (RD) model has been applied to identify the local bearing loads. Local loads are converted to stress enabling the identification of stress-life relationship and bearing damage. The damage replication process is aimed to evaluate the 20 year damage and the Acceleration by Phase-shift (AbP) method has been developed to accelerate the cumulative damage. The AbP method enables the assessment of performance characteristics of shaft bearings in a laboratory environment, reducing failure rates, validate performance in a cost effective manner by reduced testing times. Within this work, novel processes for shaft bearing reliability assessments and demonstration are suggested and it concludes with the presentation of a recommended test plan for carrying out accelerated tests on a full scale bearing.

59 Abstract Applicatin of MiFID directive on activities in universal bank MiFID or Markets on financial instruments Directive, is extensive and key European financial market regulation. Introduced into the laws of all the Member States many new applications and employed a large number of companies. The content of this work is to first clarify the concept of a universal bank, the bank and the reason why the Directive applies to them. Furthermore, analysis of specific activities and procedures, which are due to the introduction of the Directive into law occurred mainly by retail investors, the current clients of universal bank. Most attention is devoted to investor protection, mainly test the approprietness and suitability, performance instructions for the customer. The following chapter is devoted to issues of organizational changes, the new rules required. Part of the text is devoted to the transposition process in individual countries and especially in the Czech Republic. Another chapter is concerned with problems that frequently appear in the application and in the last chapter outlines recent developments, particularly in the new draft directive, revising MiFID after almost five years of operation, which is just being born on the soil of the European Union. The conclusion is the finding that changes in...

Experimental Whiplash Analysis With Hybrid Iii 50 Percentile Test Dummy

Gocmen, Ulas 01 September 2009 (has links) (PDF)
Whiplash injuries as a result of rear impact are among the most common injuries in traffic accidents. This is why whiplash injuries have reached a high priority in the research area. In this study, the effects of head restraint position and impact pulse to the whiplash injury have been analyzed by performing whiplash tests using the sled test facility of METU-BILTIR Center Vehicle Safety Unit. Although there are many whiplash test protocols, the test sample has been prepared according to the most recent one, Euro NCAP Whiplash Test Protocol. Three different head restraint positions and three different impact pulses with different severities, totally nine tests have been performed. The tests are performed with a three point generic seat belt and an instrumented Hybrid III 50th percentile male adult crash test dummy is used as the occupant in driver seat of a light commercial vehicle. High speed cameras, sensors on the crash test dummy and a data acquisition system are used to take the test data. This test data has been analyzed and presented according to the defined whiplash assessment criteria and the performance scores of the particular seat for each test have been determined using the whiplash assessment criteria values according to the Euro NCAP Test Protocols.

Mají odkupy zbraní pozitivní vliv na míru kriminality? / Do Gun Buybacks Have Effect on Crime Rate?

Chmelík, Pavel January 2013 (has links)
This paper analyzes effect of gun buyback that took place in Great Britain in years 1996 and 1997 on crime rate and compares the results with theoretical arguments and previous empirical findings. It contains analysis of three independent time series: crime rate in England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Models of the time series are built using Box-Jenkins methodology. The models are tested for presence of a structural break using visual analysis, Chow test and Quandt-Andrews test. These tests are used as an evaluation criterion of the effect of buyback on crime rate. The result of the analysis is that it is not possible to reject the null hypothesis that buybacks do not have effect on crime rate.

Úroveň znalostí a dovedností v chemii u žáků gymnázií / The level of knowledge and skills in chemistry among secondary school students

Cífková, Tereza January 2015 (has links)
The primary goal of the this thesis is to create standardized tool to determine the level of competency in Chemistry (i.e. knowledge, abilities, and skills) among secondary school students, formulated in the form of "expected outcomes" in the Framework Education Programme for Secondary General Education (RVP G, 2007) and then use this tool to determine the success of students in secondary schools in teaching the tests expected outcomes of chemistry in the academic year 2014/2015. The creation of this research tool and determine the success of students after a few years of starting curricular reform allows for use in future years to monitor the development of education in chemistry by general educational programs. The study first conducted analyses of these expected outcomes from the perspective of Bloom's Taxonomy of Educational Objectives (Amer, 2006; Anderson et al., 2001; Hudecová, 2004; Krathwohl, 2002; Krietzer et al., 1994). By examining the School Education Programmes of secondary schools participating in the study, a curriculum was identified that is overlooked or not clearly defined by RVP G (2007), whose inclusion in education falls within the competence of each school. Requirements were also compared for outputs of chemistry education for secondary school students in the Czech Republic...

Metody statistické inference založené na matici vzdáleností / Distance-based testing

Solnický, Radek January 2011 (has links)
When analyzing ecological data, one considers traditional multivariate techniques to be unsuitable. The use of dissimilarity coefficients and distance matrices is a way, how to solve this problem. In this work we present some of these coefficients and distance-based tests: Mantel test, several versions of ANOSIM and MRPP tests and distance-based test for homogeneity of multivariate dispersions. We focus on relationships among these tests and illustrate the use with an example. We also discuss the difficulties of interpretation of the results of these tests.
