Neonicotinoids were determined in river water samples, commercial&nbsp;formulations, and their photolytic and photocatalytic degradation was also monitored. To&nbsp;confirm the voltammetric results, comparative measurements were performed by liquid&nbsp;chromatography with diode-array detector and infrared spectrometry. Detection of some&nbsp;degradation products formed during the photodegradation processes was monitored using&nbsp;liquid chromatography with tandem mass-spectrometric detection. The surface structure&nbsp;of CR 5 graphite powder, tricresyl phosphate-based carbon paste electrode and glassy&nbsp;carbon electrode was investigated by scanning electron microscopy.</p>

This study was conducted at Escola de Agronomia e Engenharia de Alimentos of Universidade Federal de Goiás , in Goiânia, and at commercial areas and seedlings of nursery of Usina Jalles Machado S/A , in Goianésia, Goiás State, Brazil, in period from December of 2006 to November of 2007. Three experiments were conducted, being one without and two with the presence of root froghopper Mahanarva fimbriolata. In these experiments, thiamethoxam was used in the doses 0 g of active ingredient (i.a.).ha-1, 100 g i.a.ha-1, 150 g i.a.ha-1e 200 g i.a.ha-1, with application accomplished in December end, being evaluated the number of nymphs of January to May, and in the crop, the yield and technological parameters. To evaluate the thiamethoxam effect in the initial development of the plants two experiments they were led: one in acrylic boxes (3,5 x 11 x 11 cm) with substrate and other in tubes of PVC (0,20 x 1,20 m) with soil. In the first the variety was used RB867515, with the same doses of the field experiments, being evaluated development of the above-ground part and roots, third days after the application of the insecticide. In tubes, conducted the experiment in factorial scheme, with two varieties (RB867515 and SP80-1816) and six doses (0 g, 50 g, 100 g, 150g, 200 g and 250 g i.a.ha-1), being evaluated the parameters, tillers number, height, diameter of stem, length of the roots, shoot and root dry matter mass, 130 days after the application of the insecticide. In the field experiments, all the thiamethoxam doses were efficient in the population reduction of M. fimbriolata, not differing statistical between itself. The thiamethoxam application made possible increment in the agricultural productivity of 7,98 t.ha-1, with increase in the industrial revenue. The technological parameters were not influenced by the thiamethoxam application. In acrylic boxes there was increment of up to 3,7 times in the mass it evaporates of the roots in treated seedlings with thiamethoxam. In tubes of PVC, effect of thiamethoxam doses was observed in the increase of the diameter and dry weight of roots.

Elucidating the Effects of Thiamethoxam Neonicotinoid on Honey Bee Learning Using the Proboscis Extension Response

Shepherd, David J 01 May 2017 (has links)
In this study, the effects of the neonicotinoid pesticide, thiamethoxam, are examined through the Proboscis Extension Response (PER) in honey bees (Apis mellifera). PER is a form of classical conditioning applied to honey bees through scent and reward association which quantifies learning rates. Results between groups treated with thiamethoxam did not differ significantly from untreated control groups. Potential reasons for these results are discussed. The method and experimental apparatus for testing the PER assay are also discussed.
