O ciclo de vida do destino turístico na vila de Alter do Chão - PA : reflexões para o desenvolvimento turístico sustentável / Life cycle of tourist destination in the village of Alter do Chão (PA): reflections for sustainable tourism development

Leonardo Condurú Guedes 03 November 2010 (has links)
It has been discussed on this research based on Butlers Theory of the life cycle of a tourist destination, particular features associated with the experience of visiting the village of Alter do Chão, Santarém district, belonging to Tapajós Tour Pole, located on the western portion of Pará State. Based on a theoretical and empirical approach, it can be stated that there is a cyclical path in that district with a gradual change from a small fishermen and craftsmen village into a tourist destination. Method involved a broad literature review about the model life cycle of a destination, acquisition of secondary data from official documents and primary data collect through field interviews conducted with representatives of four social segments of the destination (community, organized civil society, Government and private sector). Results show that this tourist destination is positioned exploration and involvement phase. They also show that there is no appropriate infrastructure investment, and, the private and public tourism management bodies are still deficient. Therefore, there is a needs for better planning that should focus on the sustainability of the tourism in Alter do Chão - PA.

Megaprojects, Gentrification, and Tourism.: The Case of Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Spain)

Hübscher, Marcus 24 July 2023 (has links)
From Megaprojects to Tourism Gentrification? 7. Opaque Urban Planning 8. Planning behind closed Doors 9. Schlussbetrachtung / Inner-city megaprojects are very visible elements in neoliberal urbanism. Such projects are regarded as a symbol of the ongoing competition between urban spaces and the fight over resources, wealth, and a higher position in the global urban hierarchy. Simultaneously, megaprojects are criticized for reinforcing undemocratic planning structures and spatial injustices. Thus, touristification and gentrification are often observed impacts – not only at the project’s site but also in surrounding neighborhoods. The objective of this doctoral thesis is to explore the relationship between megaprojects, gentrification, and tourism, using Santa Cruz Verde 2030 as a case study. This megaproject aims to transform the inner-city oil refinery in Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Spain) into a mixed-use urban neighborhood. In this thesis, I will investigate to what extent the megaproject will (not) interfere with existing spatial and functional relationships, and which stakeholders have (not) been integrated into the wider process. In order to appraise this megaproject ex-ante, a mix of quantitative and qualitative methods is proposed (such as a systematic literature review, a multivariate vulnerability and cluster analysis of socio-spatial data, geographic information systems, and qualitative interviews). Using spatial justice as a lense, I will show the highly polarized social and urban setting of the future megaproject. Apart from that, the concept and planning of the project are strongly focused on specific target groups, while local residents are excluded. At the same time, Santa Cruz Verde 2030 is expected to cause touristification and gentrification. This will reproduce spatial injustices in the city that could be mitigated through transparent planning procedures and participation – which is why this thesis demands to rethink the established decision-making in the neoliberal city.:1. Networks, technology and regional development: small tourism enterprises in Western Southland, New Zealand

Clark, Vanessa Unknown Date (has links)
Tourism is increasingly being used as a tool to stimulate regional development in rural areas. Small tourism enterprises (STE) lie at the heart of the industry and form a major part of the tourism sector. Characterised by flexible organisational structures and small size, STE are well positioned to respond to a growing demand for unique personalised visitor experiences. Information and communications technologies (ICT) enhance access to information, improve the efficiency of business activities and promote networking between businesses, community and travellers at the local, regional and international level.Western Southland is a predominantly rural region in the far south of New Zealand. Promoting the development of a cohesive tourism industry in the Western Southland region will benefit individual operators, their communities and the region as a whole. Using the case of Western Southland, this study explores the profile and characteristics of STE; their perceptions of the value of networking and collaboration, and their attitudes towards and use of ICT. Also considered are the implications of STE attitudes and behaviour in relation to the New Zealand Tourism Strategy and the New Zealand Digital Strategy goals in shaping regional development. A variety of business and community stakeholders are part of the broader case study contributing a rich understanding of the dynamics of the region. A mixed method approach is used to collect data through a series of semi-structured interviews and a survey. Key findings show that limited planned networking is occurring and there is a need to increase STE awareness of the benefits of collaborative activities in order to promote active engagement with other STE. Existing networks are found to be largely informal and embedded in the social and cultural context of communities. The level of ICT use by STE varies, and considerable support is required to encourage operators to upskill. National development goals promote ideals of sustainable communities and businesses, and are aligned with what operators envisage for their region.

Local Development And Conservation Priorities

Kamberoglu, Bahar Burcu 01 March 2012 (has links) (PDF)
The thesis evaluates the case of Ortahisar where natural rock-caved storage sector has been the major dominant traditional economic activity since 1950s. However this economic sector has begun to recess because of conservation priorities after the declaration of G&ouml / reme Historical National Park including Ortahisar settlement in World Heritage List by UNESCO in 1986. In addition, the tourism sector has begun to develop gradually in the Region as large amounts of tourists began to invade because of the world heritage advertisement of UNESCO and has begun to threaten the town&rsquo / s local economy, natural rock-caved storage sector. The aim of this thesis is to balance the stone-caved storage sector and tourism sector facilities and integrate the sustainable sides of them with conservation and sustainability objectives in a socio-spatial planning model and to ensure these two sectors&rsquo / positive contributions to each other and local economy. Finally, the thesis will emphasize the contribution of heritage planning to the sustainability of the local economy, ensuring of each sectors contribution to each other and local economy and heritage conservation process.
