Consequentemente, houve a necessidade de redimensionar o perfil da cidade, o que refletiu em diversos aspectos do cotidiano de seus habitantes, principalmente no que tange às questões do universo do trabalho. André Gorz (2007) ressalta que o trabalho, na perspectiva econômica, tornou-se o ―cerne de nossa existência, individual e social‖, formando, assim, uma ―sociedade de trabalhadores‖. Apesar da diversidade e da ampliação de abordagens da literatura contemporânea, como afirma Regina Dalcastagnè (2012), o campo brasileiro ainda é extremamente homogêneo, com a predominância de escritores homens, brancos, escolarizados e de classe média, bem como de suas personagens que compartilham do mesmo perfil. Ou seja, são perspectivas escassas que não representam a pluralidade da sociedade brasileira. Luiz Ruffato, nesse contexto, é uma exceção tanto pela legitimidade de seu lugar de fala quanto por representar em O mundo inimigo (2005) a formação de uma ―sociedade de trabalhadores‖ na cidade de Cataguases, em Minas Gerais, espaço ficcional da narrativa e cidade natal do escritor. A presente analisa a trajetória das personagens de O mundo inimigo a partir das relações de trabalho e das transformações da cidade de Cataguases, refletindo, dessa forma, sobre as possibilidades de diálogos entre literatura e sociedade. A metodologia empregada baseia-se na análise crítica interpretativa do texto literário a partir de pesquisa bibliográfica em textos que tratam das temáticas do trabalho e da cidade e da teoria da narrativa, com ênfase nas particularidades do romance contemporâneo. Dessa forma, Ruffato apresenta, em O mundo inimigo, um painel da sociedade contemporânea em que suas personagens, cotidianamente, transitam pela cidade de Cataguases, bem como pelas narrativas-capítulos de seu romance-mosaico. / From the consolidation of capitalist type of production, in the transition to century XX from century XIX, the industrialization started to characterize the modern society and to be its main transformation factor, as Henry Lefebvre points out (2001). Thereafter, there were the need to resize the profile of the city, which reflected in various aspects of its inhabitant‘s routine, specially concerning the questions of the work universe. André Gorz (2007) finds that work, in an economic perspective, became the ―center of our private and social being‖, forming a ―worker society‖. Despite the diversity and increase of the approach of contemporary literature, as said by Regina Dalcastagnè (2012), the Brazilian field is extremely homogeneous, with the majority of writers made up of male, white, well-educated and from the middle class, as well as its characters that shares the same profile. In other words, they are scarce perspectives which don‘t represent the plurality of the Brazilian society. Luiz Ruffato is the exception to the rule for the legitimacy of his speech place, when he represents in O Mundo Inimigo (2005) the creation of a ―worker society‖ in the city of Cataguases, in Minas Gerais, a fictional place of the story and the writer‘s birthplace. This work intends to analyze the characters‘ pathway of O Mundo Inimigo from the relations of work and the remaking of Cataguases, trying, this way, to ponder the possibilities of dialog between literacy and society. The approach used was based in the critical and interpretative analyzes of the literary text, from bibliographic research in texts related with work and city themes, and the narrative theory, emphasizing the peculiarity of the contemporary romance. In this way, Ruffato presents, in O Mundo Inimigo a portrait of a contemporary society where its characters, in a daily basis, go around the city of Cataguases, as well as the narratives-chapters of his romance-mosaic.
