Thesis (MTech (Education))--Cape Peninsula University of Technology, 2010. / This research investigates the influence of a 12 week holistic fitness programme on learner attitudes in three multi-grade schools in the Wellington area of the Western Cape. A sample of 38 (N= 21 males and N=17 females), grade 4 multi-grade learners participated in the study. The study also tests whether an evaluation model as applied in this research: a) Can give insight into how to develop a fitness programme and assist to refine and improve such a program; b) Assists, through evaluation and attitudinal evaluation questionnaires to identify the various components of a fitness programme that can be modified to optimise the outcomes of the programme. It was found that the structure provided by the holistic fitness programme encouraged in significant positive attitudes toward all seven sub-domains of the CATPA inventory. It is concluded that the participation in a structured fitness programme is confidently associated with the development of more positive attitudes.

Barroso, André Luís Ruggiero. January 2015 (has links)
Abstract: This study was related to the sport classification system, using internal logic as a reference, based on the criteria of cooperation, interaction with the opponent, comparative performance and tactical objectives of the action, using printed educational material - teacher's notebook and student's notebook. Thus, the aim of the study was to investigate which are the relevant changes that should be made by physical education teachers, working in the eighth and/or ninth grade regarding the educational material, to teach the sport classification system, developed by the Rio Grande do Sul Department of State Education, according to the existing teaching needs, and whether these changes address other groups of teachers who work at the same level of education. Using the action research method, this study had the effective participation of seven teachers, who were divided into two groups: A - developed the lessons with original educational material and B - used the teaching materials modified by the members of the first group. The results were organized into three categories for discussion: understanding and assessment of the sport classification system, understanding and assessment of educational material, implementation of the educational material related to the sport classification system. In the first category, favorable factors related to teaching of the classification system were observed, mainly emphasizing better presentation, organization and structuring of content and the diversity of the sports that were taught. Regarding the second category, initially the teachers showed insecurities and fears, mainly due to not having experience in dealing with the educational material, however, after using the material, they emphasized that it can be an important teaching tool, which helps the pedagogical process, as long as the teacher is allowed to make changes in accordance to their educational realities. As for the third category, a big part of... / Doutor

A study of the provision of physical education for senior primary girls in schools in KwaZulu-Natal

Chetty, Saroja 03 November 2005 (has links)
The main aim of this dissertation was to examine the status of Physical Education for senior primary girls in KwaZulu-Natal. Two sets of questionnaires were used to acquire information from Physical Education teachers and management staff involved in supervision of Physical Education at primary schools. The data obtained were then analysed. • To determine the degree of constructive guidance given in the teaching of senior primary Physical Education by school management • To determine whether physical educators are suitably qualified • To determine whether Physical Education forms part of the core curriculum at school • To make a historical comparative study of the development of Physical Education in primary schools and in KwaZulu-Natal in particular • To determine whether schools have the necessary resources needed in order to teach Physical Education • To make recommendations for the improvement of teaching Physical Education in the senior primary phase in the primary schools of KwaZulu-Natal The main findings of this study were as follows: • Presently there are only 28% of Physical Education specialists teaching Physical Education • The majority (60%) of the educators teaching Physical Education to senior primary learners is males • That about 36% of the educators do not actually teach Physical Education during the Physical Education lesson • An overwhelming majority (100%) of Physical Education educators indicated that they were not supervised in the last 36 months. Some go far back as seven to ten years • A little more than half (58%) of the schools had specialists in school- but they were classroom-based educators. Several recommendations are made out of these findings ranging from making Physical Education part of the core curriculum, ensuring Physical Education is taught by a specialist educator, providing facilities and equipment, supervising of Physical Education and the role of the Physical Education subject advisors. It is expected that such recommendations, if implemented, would contribute towards the elimination of problems that face Physical Education specialists and in improving the status quo of 'Physical Education. / Dissertation (MEd)--University of Pretoria, 2006. / Humanities Education / MEd / Unrestricted

A Model Graduate Program in Physical Education for Thai Colleges and Universities

Boonliang Koomchoo 08 1900 (has links)
The primary purpose of this study was the development of a model graduate program leading to a master's degree in physical education which could be used in Thailand and provide suitable guidelines for Thai colleges and universities interested in establishing such a program. A secondary purpose was to develop a systematic approach for student admission and a retention plan which would be compatible with the current trends and administration of higher education in Thailand. Following a review of the literature that included the history of general education, higher education, and physical education in Thailand as well as graduate study in physical education in the United States, a research instrument was devised to elicit responses from chairpersons of physical education departments in 156 U.S. institutions of higher learning and from a professional panel of five physical educators in Thailand concerning four aspects of master's degree programs in physical education: patterns and organization, curricular concepts, admission and retention requirements, and core course requirements. The return rate for the chairpersons surveyed in the United States was 85 per cent. The responses received from the U.S. and Thai professionals revealed a consensus between the two groups with regard to a number of the items in all four of the topic areas covered by the questionnaire. Based upon the survey results, guidelines were suggested for a model master's degree program in physical education in Thai colleges and universities. In addition, recommendations for further research were made, notably a review of master's programs in physical education in other countries which could provide valuable information for further modification of the model and systematic evaluation of the model program as implemented within a university setting.

The public relations value of a high school circus

Unknown Date (has links)
"Since Claxton High School is among the few schools in its geographical area which have a physical education program, and since that program has been in effect for only a short period of time, it is felt that the people of the community need to be more fully acquainted with the program in order to appreciate its values. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to determine if the high school circus, presented as representative of the total physical education program, is valuable as a public relations project"--Introduction. / Typescript. / "August, 1954." / "Submitted to the Graduate Council of Florida State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science." / Advisor: Kenneth D. The educational values of Florida State University's circus

Unknown Date (has links)
"Florida State University presents an annual all-student University circus which is nationally known. This event is a five-ring affair held in the spring quarter of each year in which approximately one hundred and fifty students take an active part. The activities which make up the circus include those of the aerial, dancing, balancing, gymnastics and tumbling, skating, and clowning types. Approximately five small performances are given during the fall quarter in cities near the locality in the State of Florida each year. The Department of Physical Educaiton for Men at Florida State University offers a one-hour service course in circus activities as well as sponsoring the annual all-student University circus. The circus is a part of the physical education program. Physical education is education, and the purposes of both are the same. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to determine the educational values of Florida State University's circus. If it is found that circus activities contribute to the three major purposes of physical education--development of mental and physical fitness, development of social and ethical character, and development of skills for worthy use of leisure--such an enterprise may become a desirable addition to the total physical education program"--Introduction. / "July, 1950." / Typescript. / "Submitted to the Graduate Council of Florida State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science under Plan II." / Advisor: Kenneth D.
