Entre esses profissionais com distintas forma??es e proced?ncias, veio ? tona, na busca irrequieta pelo registro do ainda existente, Arialdo Pinho. Nascido no Rio de Janeiro, com o dom?nio da t?cnica laboral e o significativo aporte cultural, ? margem da instru??o formal, chega a Natal em 1951 e torna-se importante refer?ncia da escola modernista residencial. Em 1958, j? em Fortaleza-CE, d? continuidade ao potencial conquistado ? luz de suas fun??es intelectuais e ?s estreitas rela??es sociais. Ao custear as fendas atinentes a estas circunst?ncias, pergunta-se: como os decursos pessoal, intelectual e profissional de Arialdo Pinho materializado nos empreendimentos nas duas cidades podem ser apreendidos na constru??o historiogr?fica dos bens culturais edificados? Acredita-se, assim, que o momento fazia-se favor?vel para a execu??o de seus projetos nestas capitais, que vivenciavam a insufici?ncia de profissionais com forma??o de n?vel superior, e cuja clientela composta pela elite, passava a exigir, entretanto, uma arquitetura diferenciada. Nesse delinear perceptivo, configura-se como ponto de partida as trajet?rias e as vicissitudes profissionais e o conhecimento e registro da pr?tica da arquitetura. Pretende-se, ent?o, compreender a distin??o dos caminhos tra?ados pelo profissional Arialdo Pinho na sua atua??o entre Natal e Fortaleza, contribuindo para a constru??o de uma ferramenta que condense as informa??es e ao mesmo tempo estimule e publicize novas reflex?es acerca da hist?ria da arquitetura e da cidade. Para abranger essas nuan?as, os aportes te?ricos basearam-se nas contribui??es concernentes ? mem?ria, ao patrim?nio e ao audiovisual. Os acervos est?ticos experienciados pelo uso dos dispositivos na viv?ncia de campo resultaram no encontro com Arialdo Pinho e no desfolhar de sua trajet?ria. A experi?ncia emp?rica manifestou o document?rio ?Arialdo Pinho: Uma trajet?ria des-vi?vel? como produto material, em livre cria??o argumentativa, da tese. Desses caminhos particulares esquecidos, muitas vezes alijados pela literatura especializada, evidenciou-se um retrato pouco compreendido e explorado das incurs?es da pr?tica da arquitetura e, portanto, da hist?ria das cidades. / A significant part of the architectural production of the 1950s and 1960s has being destroyed in Natal, reaching not only the building collection, but also bringing with it reminiscences of that time, including the authors of these projects, which were often not even mentioned or recognized in academic studies. Among those professionals with different formations and provenances, came up, in the restless search for the register of the still existing, Arialdo Pinho. Born in Rio de Janeiro, with the mastery of work technique and significant cultural contribution, on the edge of formal education, he arrives in Natal in 1951 and becomes an important reference of the residential modernist school. In 1958, already in Fortaleza-CE, continues the conquered potential in the light of his intellectual functions and to the narrow social relations. By supporting the gaps related to these circumstances, one wonders: how can the personal, intellectual and professional course of Arialdo Pinho materialized in the ventures of the two cities can be apprehended in the historiographical construction of edified cultural goods? It is believed, thus, that the moment was favorable for the execution of his projects in these capitals, which experienced the insufficiency of professionals with higher education, and whose clients composed by the elite, now demanded a differentiated architecture. In this perceptive outline, it is configured as starting point the trajectories and the professional vicissitudes and the knowledge and record of the architecture practice. It is intended, then, to understand the distinction of the paths traced by the professional Arialdo Pinho in his work between Natal and Fortaleza, contributing to the construction of a tool that condenses the information and at the same time stimulate and publicize new reflections about the architectural history of the city. To embrace these nuances, the theoretical contributions were based on the contributions concerning memory, patrimony and audiovisual. The static collections experienced by the use of the devices in the field experience resulted in the encounter with Arialdo Pinho and in the unfolding of his trajectory. The empirical experience manifested the documentary "Arialdo Pinho: A nonviable trajectory" as a material product, in free argumentative creation, of the thesis. Of these forgotten private paths, often neglected by specialized literature, it was evidenced a little understood and explored portrait of the incursions of the practice of the architecture and, therefore, of the history of the cities.

It covered from the design of water supply and sewage works, road and rail transport networks, works against drought in the Northeast, hydroelectric and harbor facilities to the urbanization planning and architectural projects, which displays a systematic and multiple production. City and territory conformed to his fields of verification, practical and above all, transformation. The search for understanding of the inclusion of a social actor in this process thus contributes to the specific analysis of the doings of Henrique de Novaes, who graduated at Polytechnic School of Rio de Janeiro in 1906. From a polymorphic activity in different scales, one tries to figure how, through academic education or professional practice, urban history in Brazil can be told or built. The introduction of technological innovations matched the purposes of planning and urban sprawl, as well as met the specifications of regulation and institutionalization of public infrastructure services at the time. The overall plans proposed by the engineer thought of the city as a whole, interconnected to the structural networks. At the same time, the knowledge of a larger physical scale the territory bounces back in the urban in a relationship of reciprocity and completeness. The objective research, therefore, tries to understand the roles played by Henrique de Novaes s works and academic education in the accomplishment of systematic modernization of Brazilian urban space and territory, recovering a little known historical figure by current historiography. It is proposed, as methodological axis, that the study of this professional career configures itself as an essential element for understanding the idea of progress embodied in the technical studies and proposals for improvements and sanitation nationwide in the first half of the twentieth century . The primary sources for the construction of this analysis were technical articles in journals of the period ( Clube de Engenharia , Via??o e Revista Brasileira de Engenharia ), and technical reports, government messages, newspaper articles published at the time, autobiographical reports and the engineer s verbal communications with relatives. The work is structured in three chapters: "Biographical traces, academic education and 'technical and political' activities" illustrates the initiation into the technical, public and political environment; Chapter 2, "Technique and territory" outlines his network understanding through sanitation and transport services; Chapter 3 "Technique and City" describes the influence of polytechnics knowledge on the propositions of modernization of cities; Finally, "Final Thoughts: An Evaluation," presents an overview of the affiliations and practice of an engineer in the different scales, and its contribution to the modernization of Brazilian urban and territorial space / A trajet?ria profissional do engenheiro civil Henrique de Novaes, uma figura de relev?ncia no meio acad?mico, t?cnico e pol?tico, demonstra sua extensa e relevante atua??o pelo Brasil, na primeira metade do s?culo XX.
