Jishin (earthquake) is a musical composition written for full orchestra, based on a twelve-tone row. The twelve-tone row is structured such that it contains only two musical intervals (perfect 5 th , major 3 rd ). Due to the nature of the row, various transpositions of the row can be used to form what seems to be a never ending cycle of pitches. Throughout the composition the material of the row is fragmented and used motivically to develop larger structures within the whole of the piece. Like an earthquake, Jishin strives to create an enormous amount of tension and aggressive energy. At the end, the moment of strongest tension, the original row is set against itself in retrograde, metaphorically representing the friction caused by plate tectonics.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the current conditions of the recognition and satisfaction of the open admission program of twelve-year basic education. In addition, to analyze the differences between the recognition and satisfaction of the open admission program in school environmental variables and performance of personal variables. The methodology adopted by this study, is quantitative by using questionnaire. The samples consisted of 620 teachers selected from 97 public and private junior high schools in Kaohsiung city. 620 questionnaires were released, 498 were retrieved, and after discarding 8 invalid questionnaires, there were 490 valid questionnaires, reaching 98.3% of valid questionnaires. The researcher analyzed the survey data by various statistical methods, including: t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffe method. The findings of this study follow: I. The current conditions of recognition of the open admission program of twelve-year basic education are general, especially on the dimension of adaptive guidance. II. The current conditions of satisfaction of the open admission program of twelve-year basic education are a little unsatisfied, especially on the dimension of adaptive guidance are satisfied. III. Teacher who are male and whose seniority are over 26 years have the most significantly greater effect in the different conditions between teachers¡¦ performance and the recognition of the open admission program of twelve-year basic education IV. Teacher who are male and whose position in subject teacher have the most significantly greater effect in the different conditions between teachers¡¦ performance and the recognition of the open admission program of twelve-year basic education. Some suggestions will be proposed to the governmental administration, the education authorities, junior high school principals and teachers, and the extended research as well, based on the findings. Analyzing the twelve-tone compositions of Shostakovich often requires the application of various analytical procedures. This study examines Shostakovich's Suite for Voice and Piano, Op. 143, focusing on the two twelve-tone songs in the Suite. While the songs exhibit some traditional treatment of twelve-tone rows, the study focuses on Shostakovich's unique manipulations and the integration of tonal elements and chromaticism. An innovative analytical tool developed by Dr. Stephen Brown (NAU) is utilized in the study, as it provides clarity and strengthens otherwise weak associations. Along with the application of Brown's dual interval space, the study includes twelve-tone analysis and traditional harmonic analysis to provide a more comprehensive analysis of the Suite.

Mawson is a piece for computer realized quadraphonic tape, and Mertz is a duo for clarinet and horn. The pieces were written in celebration of the accomplishments of the 1911-1914 Mawson Antartic Expedition. The compositions are totally serialized, with a hexachord derived from Cartesian coordinates of Antartic locations used as source material.
