Výtvarné umění jako nástroj české kulturní diplomacie / Fine Art as an instrument of Czech cultural diplomacyKottová, Kristýna January 2014 (has links)
For centuries, art has played an important role as a tool of cultural diplomacy and even now represents an integral part of foreign cultural policy of different countries. Modern and contemporary fine art often reflects the current social and political issues, at both national and international levels. This thesis aims to prove that art, as a means of expression, has its place in international relations, in the context of cultural diplomacy. The intention of this thesis is to explore the many ways that fine art is applied as an instrument of cultural diplomacy and how the use of visual arts contributes to positive relations between nations and to the process of building a positive image of the state abroad. In the context of Czech cultural-diplomatic practice, the art and its employment is analysed on two levels - historical, that examines the use of art in the process of building the Czechoslovak state, and institutional, that introduces both state and private actors, who contribute greatly to the cultural diplomacy of the Czech Republic via the promotion of Czech fine arts. The final chapter focuses on the environment of New York as a world cultural and art center, and engages in representative Czech projects, activities, organizations and individuals who are successful advocates of Czech visual arts in the international context. The main contribution of this thesis is its aim to address an uncommonly debated topic - a specific area of artistic creation, its role and position in international relations and cultural diplomacy of the Czech Republic.

Annotation: The work is dedicated to tapestries from Prague Castle collections, hanging in the State Rooms and the ones that are stored in Prague Castle depository. The tapestries always played an important role in decorating the interior and still help to create a festive atmosphere of this place, usually not accessible to the public. Kříž zv. královny Dagmar / THE CROSS OF QUEEN DAGMARTrojanová, Martina January 2021 (has links)
At the end of the 17th century, a small enameled cross was discovered in one of the royal graves in Saint Bendt's church in Danish Ringsted. According to the record of the administrator of the Danish Royal Treasury, the cross was found in the grave of the Danish Queen Dagmar - the daughter of the King of Bohemia, Ottokar I (+1230). Dagmar was married in 1205 to Valdemar II the Victorious, the King of Denmark. The cross - today exhibited at the National Museum in Copenhagen - is undoubtedly a Byzantine work. Most probably, it was made in the first half of the 12th century. It is so- called enkolpion, i.e. the hanging cross (gr. Έγϰόλπιου, on the chest). Both its sides are decorated with figurative scenes. The crucifixion of the Christ is depicted on one side. The Great Deēsis with St. Basil the Great and St. John Chrysostom is shown on the other side. There is a hollow in the body of the cross, in which a relic was deposited - most likely a particle of the wood of the True Cross. Although the Queen Dagmar's Cross is considered a national treasure in Denmark, only a little attention has been paid to it so far. It is almost unknown to the Czech researchers (it is briefly mentioned by J. E. Wocel, A. B. Černý, J. Květ, K. Chytil and most recently P. Balcárek). Regrettably, the most of researchers only...

Umělecké spolky střední Evropy v kontextu společenské modernizace 19. století / Supporting the Arts...Art Societies of Central Europe in the Context of the 19 th Century's Social ModernizationKavka, Tomáš January 2013 (has links)
- Tomáš Kavka Supporting the Arts... Art Societies of Central Europe in the Context of the 19th Century's Social Modernization This dissertation focuses on the changing relations between society and art in the course of the 19th century. It observes the development within three cities - Leipzig, Prague and Brno - exponents of three different national environments. The thesis is based on the comparison of art societies representing these environments. Leipzig-based society Leipziger Kunstverein is a probe into the world of German art, Umělecká beseda of Prague demonstrates the quest for continuous development of Czech national artistic discourse and Brno's Mährischer Kunstverein is an example of the specifics of German community ringed by Slavic majority in Moravia. The thesis presents a view of Central-European artistic life, heavily determined by the dynamics of the 19th century's social modernization - the formation of civic society and national movements as well as the change of social discourse (namely concerning aesthetics and art history) about fine arts and its performers.
