Yes / Citizens’ satisfaction is acknowledged as one of the most significant influences for e-government adoption and diffusion. This study examines the impact of information quality, system quality, trust, and cost on user satisfaction of e-government services. Using a survey, this study collected 1518 valid responses from e-government service adopters across the United Kingdom. Our empirical outcomes show the five factors identified in this study have a significant impact on U.K. citizens’ satisfaction with e-government services.

Strategic Business Plan Based on Total Quality Management for Property-Marketing Small Enterprises in UK

No / The chapter investigates the property marketing enterprises in northern England, UK, through examination of the Macro/Micro environments and using standard evaluation of the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threat (SWOT)factors and the Political, Economic, Social and Technological, Environmental (ecological) and Legal (PESTEL) factors, and five forces analyses in order to explore the enterprise's standing within the market place. The PESTEL analysis provides a ‘Big Picture' of the environments in which the small enterprises operate along with identifying key strategic opportunities and threats. Insights gained here will allow entrepreneurs to take advantage of the opportunities and minimise the threats. The research methodology is examined through a real case study in a small enterprise company called Property-Marketing Company based in the UK. The findings show that the small firm seem to be in a strong sustainable position within the regional property marketing segment, and have the potential to expand. The findings also reveal that the entrepreneur's goals are reasonably well established whereas they currently suffer from the lack of a strategic plan to achieve their goals. The project aims to provide a strategic business plan for the company under study with an effective process flow in order to maximise available time, and a strategic plan of how to grow the business.

La décision britannique de mettre fin à plus de quatre décennies de participation au projet européen, la détermination du gouvernement de Theresa May à extraire son pays de l’Union Européenne (UE), mais aussi de l’Union douanière, du Marché intérieur, de la juridiction de la Cour Européenne de Justice, de l’ensemble des règlementations européennes, et même de la Convention Européenne des Droits de l’Homme, ont des implications multiples et lourdes de conséquences dans de vastes domaines. Le Royaume-Uni est certes le premier pays affecté, et ce sur tous les plans. Toutefois, la France et l’Allemagne, ainsi que le projet européen, sont aussi directement concernés par ce divorce qui laisse présager d’importantes répercussions économiques et politiques, mais aussi un déclin progressif de leur voisin d’outre-Manche, avec les conséquences qui pourront en découler.

Investigating gender differences in consumers’ experience of guilt: A comparative study

Yes / The literature of guilt in the context of consumer behavior is notably limited. It is particularly limited with respect to examining gender differences across nations. Existing studies have only evaluated gender differences, in terms of consumer guilt, in the United States. In addition, those studies evaluated gender differences in specific consumption situations such as consumer boycotting and food consumption. Thus, they do not give a comprehensive understanding of gender variations in consumer guilt. Notably, gender differences with regard to consumer guilt were shown to be limited in countries other than the United States. These studies provided contradictory results to established findings in social psychology. In view of this, by using quantitative techniques, numerous consumption settings, and samples from two distinct countries, this study provides a holistic assessment of gender differences in consumer guilt across nations. The findings indicate that gender differences, with respect to consumer guilt, are predominately present in individualistic countries and notably absent in collectivist countries. Hence, marketers should consider gender as an influential variable when devising guilt related strategies in individualistic countries. In contrast, marketers may reconsider allocating resources, with respect to gender related marketing strategies, in collectivist countries.

No / In the past two decades, the ultra-dependency and unlimited access to the Internet has changed relationships, and communication and have brought numerous benefits for users worldwide. However, as a double-edged sword, such technology has also generated a high degree of risk of victimisation, especially cyberstalking. Evidence has indicated that cyberstalking has led to more heinous crimes such as cyber fraud through data mining and social engineering. Moreover, when the crime transcends into the real world it results in rape and even murder. The use of new technologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning has also aggravated the situation where victims are now exposed to various vulnerabilities and risks as it opens new pathways for stalkers to commit this heinous crime. Given the severe impacts of cyberstalking, this chapter will examine the nature of the crime, the use of artificial intelligence in committing stalking, the motives of cyberstalkers and the legal response towards the crime.

Evaluation of conservation status of roadside verges and their vegetation in north England

No / The roadside verges and their vegetation in selected counties of north England were evaluated for their conservation status. Thirty five different road sections each 50 m long along different A and B class roads were surveyed and the criteria selected for conservation evaluation included verge area, plant diversity, species richness, disturbance, presence of rare species and structure of hedges. A field assessment sheet was prepared in which, for each factor, a numerical rating system was used. For each factor, information was recorded to help the surveyor in choosing the appropriate score for that site. The rarity of recorded species was determined from the published sources. Most of the surveyed verges (54%) are of low conservation value, 40% are of medium conservation value and only 6% have high conservation status. Despite the unsatisfactory situation, there is considerable potential for using roadside verges for nature conservation because medium class verges could be improved by adopting sound management techniques.

A comparison of spectacles purchased online and in UK optometry practice

Yes / Purpose: To compare spectacles bought online with spectacles from optometry practices. Methods: Thirty-three participants consisting of single vision spectacle wearers with either a low (N = 12, mean age 34 ± 14 years) or high prescription (N = 11, mean age 28 ± 9 years) and 10 presbyopic participants (mean age 59 ± 4 years) wearing progressive addition lenses (PALs) purchased 154 pairs of spectacles online and 154 from UK optometry practices. The spectacles were compared via participant-reported preference, acceptability, and safety; the assessment of lens, frame, and fit quality; and the accuracy of the lens prescriptions to international standard ISO 21987:2009. Results: Participants preferred the practice spectacles (median ranking 4th, IQR 1–6) more than online (6th, IQR 4–8; Mann-Whitney U = 7345, p < 0.001) and practice PALs (median ranking 2nd, IQR 1–4) were particularly preferred (online 6.5th, IQR 4–9, Mann-Whitney U = 455, p < 0.001). Of those deemed unacceptable and unsafe, significantly more were bought online (unacceptable: online 43/154 vs. practice 15/154, Fisher’s exact p = 0.0001; unsafe: online 14/154 vs. practice 5/154, Fisher’s exact p = 0.03). Conclusions: Participants preferred spectacles from optometry practice rather than those bought online, despite lens quality and prescription accuracy being similar. A greater number of online spectacles were deemed unsafe or unacceptable because of poor spectacle frame fit, poor cosmetic appearance, and inaccurate optical centration. This seems particularly pertinent to PAL lenses, which are known to increase falls risk. Recommendations are made to improve both forms of spectacle provision. / College of Optometrists
