Reflecting on How the Quality Improvement Class is Utilized in Practice

Mitchell, Gillian, Warholak, Terri January 2016 (has links)
Class of 2016 Abstract / Objectives: Discover what is working within the class, and what is not working in the class. Methods: Three focus groups were held on the University of Arizona College of Pharmacy campus in January 2016. Participants were recruited via electronic mail invitation and given the opportunity to attend in person or call in via conference call. During each focus group participants were asked a series of questions designed to illicit a discussion regarding their opinions of the course and identify which areas of the curricula they still utilize. These focus groups were recorded via hand-held digital recording device. The recordings were transcribed verbatim into a word processing computer program, with all names and other identifying agents removed to maintain anonymity. The transcriptions were then imported into Atlas.Ti analysis software for descriptive coding. Once coded, the quotations were organized into a network to identify trends in answers. Results: A total of 8 students participated in the three focus groups. Students were able to reflect on both the course and project as well as explain and demonstrate their application of the knowledge they learned as a result, as well as areas in which they feel the course can be improved. Conclusions: The QI course taught the students how to perform a formal quality improvement research project, while performing the project helped solidify skills learned not only in the class but also previous courses. The students still utilize the skills they learned in both the class and project as they continue on in their professions outside a classroom setting.

Childhood Risk Factors That Impact The Likelihood Of Becoming A Victim Of Domestic Violence

Gers, Mallory Ann, Gomez, Daniela Paola 01 June 2019 (has links)
The purpose of this research project was to identify risk factors for becoming a victim of domestic violence. Demographic and qualitative data were collected through in-person interviews with 8 female survivors of domestic violence from San Bernardino County. These interviews were transcribed verbatim and analyzed to determine risk factors that could lead women to becoming a victim of domestic violence and what helped them get out of their relationships. The use of interviews allowed the researchers to connect with the survivors and gain in-depth information about their experiences. Using content analysis, the following themes arose: risk factors that involved absent parents/divorced parents, childhood history of sexual and/or physical abuse, not being educated on domestic violence, and growing up in an environment where violence is normalized. The most utilized services were group therapy, individual counseling, and community domestic violence agencies. The researchers found that that participants had similar experiences that could have led them to being in an abusive relationship. Findings imply that the most effective way to minimize the risk of becoming a victim of domestic violence is to educate individuals on healthy relationships and process adverse childhood experiences that have been identified as risk factors for becoming a victim of domestic violence.

Planejamento territorial do Rio Grande do Norte: as desigualdades socioespaciais em ação / Territorial planning of the State of Rio Grande do Norte: socio-spatial inequalities in action

Araújo, Markelly Fonseca de 28 January 2014 (has links)
This research is devoted to understanding the manifestations of socio-spatial inequalities of the territorial configuration in the State of Rio Grande do Norte - RN. The spreading of technical-scientific-informational means in this state, formed by the characteristics of the current historical period, also called technical-scientific-informational period, was expressed by digital thematic cartography through territorial dialectic: areas of technical densities and areas of technical rarefactions. This unevenly spread material basis causes the formation of localities in which few individuals have access to the mobility brought by the mentioned period (convergence of moments and time acceleration) and many others are excluded or perversely connected. Geographically, according to the territory used by people from the state of Rio Grande do Norte, territorial utilization is purged, which reveals the socio-spatial inequalities discussed here. The territory utilized is a category for spatial analysis that allows figuring out the system of social values in a given context: use and exchange in the preparation of the material basis of life and its dynamics. The socio-spatial inequalities are challenges of the current world, caused by capitalist system contradictions that promote socio-spatial reproduction. Given the geographical expressions of the socio-spatial inequalities in the utilized territory, territorial planning of the State of RN was discussed considering its organics and operation. The array of periodization that supports this argument is a technical and analytical tool that reveals the reading of the historically constituted territorial movement in identifying the State of RNs planning periods. Thus, the practice of planning ignores the territory schizophrenia, its complaints and its active makeup: global happenings functioning as vectors and the reactions of places as counter-rationalities to the uprights imposed on them. Considering the territory as a geometrical and political-administrative reference, planning benefits the corporate utilization of the territory and the specialization of locations, maximizing segmental policies while neglecting the notion of ordinary space of all the people, companies, institutions, organizations, that is, the community, of the territory utilized. The politics that lacks rigorous knowledge, besides being a historical backspace, is a denial of its primary principles: to act you need to know, an axiom of the Greek philosophers in the polis foundation. The duty of geographers is to reveal the present to enable its overcoming, because only through an understanding of ongoing reality, one walks to the constitution of the future. Thus, facing current world, in which happens the explosion of the territory as a revenge of the increasingly pulsating locations in the cities and in other forms of existence, demands considering politics as action.

A General Study of Closed Circuit Television Utilization in Selected Courses at Utah State University

Christensen, Ted J. 01 May 1970 (has links)
This thesis presents an evaluation of instructional television as used in four courses at Utah State University. The study is divided into four parts: first, student attitudes and reactions; second, faculty attitudes and reactions; third, the costs involved for the individual faculty members concerned, the academic department, the Radio-Television department, and the University as a whole; and fourth, recommendations concerning the future use of instructional television at Utah State University. The four courses involved in this study were basic introductory courses in Political Science, English, Sociology, and Music. The investigator found that student attitudes and reactions varied with each course. The students in Political Science and English were generally uncertain in their attitude toward the use of television, with approximately equal numbers for and against. The students in Sociology and Music were very much in favor of the use of television. The attitudes of the faculty members associated with this project ranged from very negative to very positive. The study indicated that those instructors who were highly motivated and enthusiastic before actually becoming involved with instructional television tended to remain so throughout. Those instructors who were skeptical and hesitant beforehand also retained their attitudes. The third part of this study dealing with costs was divided into six areas for the Political Science and English courses: production costs, recording costs, instructional costs, utilization costs, cost for additional use, and cost per student credit unit for one academic year. In the cases of Sociology and Music only the production, recording and instructional costs were computed. As a result of this study, this researcher recommends the delegation of more authority to the television personnel in order that they may have a voice in the utilization process of the television courses produced. A second recommendation is that of initiating a two-phase in-service training program to assist the classroom teacher in adjusting to his new role, and to train the television teacher in methods of using instructional television. Finally, the need to have available adequate facilities for the utilization processes has become apparent during the course of this study. Television cannot prove to be a satisfactory medium of instruction if it must be satisfied with poor lighting conditions, excessive noise levels, and an undesirable choice of hours during which to offer classes.

The Effects of the Ratio of Utilized Predictors to Original Predictors on the Shrinkage of Multiple Correlation Coefficients

Petcharat, Prataung Parn 08 1900 (has links)
This study dealt with shrinkage in multiple correlation coefficients computed for sample data when these coefficients are compared to the multiple correlation coefficients for populations and the effect of the ratio of utilized predictors to original predictors on the shrinkage in R square. The study sought to provide the rationale for selection of the shrinkage formula when the correlations between the predictors and the criterion are known and determine which of the three shrinkage formulas (Browne, Darlington, or Wherry) will yield the R square from sample data that is closest to the R square for the population data.

A Design Problem Of Under-utilized Spaces: The Case Of Ankara-old Industrial District

Cirik, Umut 01 March 2005 (has links) (PDF)
The problem of under-utilized spaces has become an important problem of cities during the last decades. In rapidly urbanizing cities, especially in the city centers where the early city settlement or old town was situated, many urban and industrial functions have moved out leaving behind abandoned or under-utilized. These spaces, due to political, economical, cultural and spatial reasons, could neither undergo healthy urban transformation process nor be reused. Such spaces pose problems to contemporary urban planning and architecture. This thesis takes up the problem of under-utilized space exemplified in the inner city of Ankara, where a large stock of land is public property. The thesis defines the problem of under-utilized space and analyzes the causes for their emergence. The aim of the study is to understand the urban character of under-utilized part of the old industrial district, which is one of the most important districts in the city center of Ankara, and develop urban transformation approaches in particular for the old industrial district as well as for similar urban areas. The thesis focuses on the urban design dimension of transformation process. Urban design as a public policy makes important contributions in solving urban problems. The thesis develops some urban design principles in accordance with some spatial, functional and social concerns in order to redevelop the old industrial district. With this contribution the study emphasizes the importance of urban design as a tool which can be utilized in the urban transformation process by urban planners and architects.
