The Relationship of Stress, Cognitive Appraisal and Dating Violence

The purpose of the present study was to test a specific path model. It was hypothesized that the relationship between the impact (amount and valence) of stress and an outcome (expressing violence toward a partner) would be mediated by an individual's cognitive appraisal of stressful events. Multiple regression procedures were used to test the model. Standardized beta coefficients indicated the strength of the relationships among the variables. Significant findings indicated that the strength of specific relationships among the ten variables (impact of events, three types of primary appraisal, four types of secondary appraisal and the expression of threats and acts of physical violence toward a partner) differed depending upon subject sex and whether the impact of the events was perceived as positive or negative.

M.Cur. / The effect of domestic violence on abused women subjected to domestic violence, the family as a unit and the broader community is of such a nature that it inhibits emotional growth in the individual and the community. This may lead to a breakdown in the mental health status of those involved. Facilitation of the mental health of abused women subjected to domestic violence is needed. They experience a lot of negative emotional dynamics in the process of shattering of the self and shattering of other relations. They are entangled in the process of abuse. They are also under the wrong impression that they are victims and that they cannot do anything about it. This is confirmed by the researcher's previous research done on the lived experience of abused women subjected to domestic violence (De Beer, 2001 : 25 - 52). The psychiatric nursing specialist is a person placed and equipped in the community health services to provide the facilitation of the mental health of abused women subjected to domestic violence. Up till now psychiatric nursing specialists did not receive the necessary credit and were not utilised to benefit the community health services, hospitals and the individuals involved.

Nous avons retenu un maximum de réponses qui constituent, au vu des résultats, les déterminants majeurs du phénomène de violence scolaire en Haïti : l’usage de la violence verbale, morale et physique. Les résultats de cette recherche mettent en évidence les implications, au plan éducatif, de la prise en compte des représentations des élèves et des enseignants. Ils mettent par ailleurs en exergue un point névralgique pour l’école qui doit garantir la discipline nécessaire à la vie collective tout en respectant les principes démocratiques qui consacrent les droits et libertés de chacun.L’interprétation des propos des élèves et des enseignants ayant participé à cette recherche permet d’ébaucher des réponses qui tiennent compte de leurs attentes et répondent à la fois aux exigences de rigueur d’un établissement d’enseignement et aux principes démocratiques du droit. Quant à la politique publique en matière d’éducation, l’Etat haïtien est très faible, il n’a pas les personnes aux places qu’il faut. Le statu quo est gardé. Pour y remédier, l’Etat doit mettre en œuvre une politique éducative qui vise à redonner à l’éducation son vrai sens et sa vraie valeur c’est-à-dire former l’être pour devenir le citoyen non violent de l’avenir. / We selected maximum responses are, in view of the results, the major determinants of these phenomena: the use of verbal abuse, the use of psychological violence and even physical violence.The results of this research highlight the implications to educational level, taking into account the representations of students and teachers. They shall also highlight a hotspot for the school to ensure the necessary discipline in community life while respecting the democratic principles that enshrine the rights and freedoms of everyone.The interpretation of what students and teachers who participated in this research allows to draft responses that take into account their expectations and meet both the requirements of a rigorous educational and democratic principles of law school.As to public policy in education, the Haitian state is very low, it was not the right people to their right place. So doing, the situation remains untouchable. To remedy this, the state must implement an education policy that aims to give education its true meaning and its true value is to say form be to become citizens of tomorrow and not violent.

Domestic Violence Study for Counselor Education Masters Students

The issue of domestic violence continues to be of great concern to society. It is crucial counselors have an understanding of dynamics of domestic violence and the impact it has on victims. Even with heightened awareness of the past decade, the issue continues to be misunderstood, missed altogether by counselors, and sometimes misdiagnosed. This study was created to explore the level of understanding masters level counseling students have of domestic violence, battering behavior, victimization, socioeconomic preconceptions, and counseling victims. Masters level counseling students from the University of North Texas, Denton, TX and staff members of two battered women's shelters from the Dallas, TX area participated in a survey to identify the level of knowing and sensitivity to the issue of domestic violence. Upon completion, an independent t-test was conducted to measure differences in these areas between the two groups. Results indicate a need for counseling students to better understand this issue and implications for client/victims.

Clinical Resource Practice Scenarios to Mitigate Bullying

Workplace bullying is repeated, aggressive action towards a victim, which especially affects new graduate nurses and can inhibit growth and lead to nursing burnout and staff turnover. The purpose of this Doctor of Nursing Practice project was to develop a clinical resource educational module. The case scenarios were developed using literature on workplace bullying and lateral violence. Clegg's circuits of power theory was applied to frame the organizational authoritative nursing power struggles that exist as a circular flow between different nursing group members, and the American Nurses Association (ANA) Practice Standards and Code of Ethics guided the assertive communication. The case scenarios consisted of 3 vignettes, terms and definitions, a summary of the ANA practice and code of ethical standards, the Appraisal of Guidelines Research and Evaluation (AGREE) II instrument, Workplace Bullying Inventory, Organizational Predictors and Consequences of Bullying Scale, flip cards, and content readability evaluation forms. The AGREE II instrument is a 7-point Likert scale for evaluating clinical guidelines with a threshold standard of 70%. The results of advisory committee members' rigor scores (mean = 50.8, median = 31, SD = 3.03) were compared with the scores of nurse evaluators (mean = 50, median = 31, SD = 4). The AGREE II reliability score is 0.93, with similar results found for the advisory members (0.939) and the nurse evaluators (0.941). The overall findings suggest that the AGREE II is a viable instrument for evaluating case scenarios, which can be used to improve the workplace environment for nurses by addressing workplace bullying.

What's Going on Out There? a Survey of Batterer Intervention Programs

This national survey reports the current state of batterer intervention programs (BIP) and the provision of batterer intervention services. BIP directors (N = 150) provide data regarding program structure, service characteristics, referral processes, client characteristics, evaluation activities, and recidivism. Results indicate that BIP have become more independent of parent agencies and two-thirds are completely selfsupporting from client fees. Current development of specific treatment tracks and the screening of clients for these tracks are judged to be inadequate. This survey is believed to be the largest to date and the first on a national scale in 20 years. Recommendation is made for national coordination of BIP efforts.
