Volby 2012: analýza mediální stránky předvolební kampaně KDU-ČSL / The elections 2012: analysis of the media aspectof the election campaign of KDU-ČSL

Pohaněl, Jan January 2013 (has links)
The atmosphere of the election campaign before the elections in October 2012 was not such fierce as during the last campaign. It was mainly due to absence of a major topic that would polarise the society, like the health fees in 2008. The ČSSD tried to find a similar controversial topic that might have been the church restitutions for a moment. The purpose of the negative campaign was to discourage people from voting the governmental parties ODS and TOP 09, but it also could weaken the KDU-ČSL that was and still is closely connected with churches, especially the catholic church. The representatives of the KDU-ČSL themselves didn't publish any opinions concerning this matter, with only few exceptions. The purpose of this thesis is to analyse and evaluate the media output of the KDU-ČSL during the election campaign that was run before the elections to the regional governments and the Senate. In the first part, the main leaders of the KDU-ČSL are introduced, following by a detailed description of the campaigns in the respective regions and the senate circuits. The next part is devoted to a quantitative content analysis that examines the influence of the election forecasting models presented in the media on the decision of the voters, or the outcomes of the KDU-ČSL. The following qualitative analysis...

Efekt německých voleb na vývoj akciových trhů Visegradských zemí / Influence of German Bundestag Elections on the Stock Market Performance in Visegrad Group Countries

Skála, Jakub January 2015 (has links)
This thesis deals with the behaviour of stock markets during the period of election process. We focus on the influence of elections to the German Bundestag on stock market performance of the countries allied in Visegrad Group during the reference period 1994-2013 covering six Bundestag elections. Germany is a major export partner for all members of Visegrad Group - the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia. We examine whether there are abnormal returns on stock markets in Visegrad Group countries around the date of German Bundestag elections. We thus examine if the fact that performance of German economy is important for performance of economies of countries allied in Visegrad Group means that Bundestag elections influences their stock markets. We also analyze the influence of elections to German Bundestag on domestic stock market during the reference period 1961-2013. To measure the effect of elections we employ event study methodology using the mean-adjusted return model to measure normal returns. Our event window consists of 65 trading days around the election day (-15,50). We use the estimation window of 100 days (-150,-51). We assess our main hypothesis for each country around every Bundestag elections in our reference period separately over three event windows and also over eight event...

Testování přítomnosti adaptivního chování v akciových trzích / Testing the Presence of Adaptive Switching Behavior in Equity Markets

Staněk, Filip January 2016 (has links)
In many financial agent based models, the concept of adaptive switching be- havior is employed as a substitute for the, elegant yet unrealistic, assumption of rational expectations. Studies estimating these models however frequently suggest that agents do not behave adaptively. To better understand the source of this discrepancy, we propose a test for the presence of switching which does not require us to specify beforehand the exact form of the switching mecha- nism nor the strategies among which agents can choose. We verify the ability of the test to detect switching by Monte Carlo simulations and then apply it to stock prices from the New York Stock Exchange. The null hypothesis of the absence of switching is strongly rejected. Furthermore, we assess robustness of this finding by applying the test individually to various sub-sets of the data-set. The switching is prevalent in all considered sub-periods and in all groups of stocks categorized by traded volume. Vyzyvatel a jeho šance ve volbách do Sněmovny reprezentantů USA / Challenger and his chances in the US House of Representatives electoins

Černá, Veronika January 2010 (has links)
This diploma thesis focuses on challengers' success in the US House of Representatives elections in a selected group of states during the time period 2000-2010. It deals with the context of the American party system and describes the framework of electoral politics and campaigns. Specific position of incumbents in the elections and the incumbency advantage are taken into account as well. Aim of this work is to determine whether and how particular dominance (or absence of a dominant position) of political party in the electoral districts influences challengers' chances to be elected. Electoral districts are divided into two groups according to the presidential election results of 2000, 2004 and 2008. First, there are districts where one party has a dominant voters' support and candidates of that party are safe in the elections. Second, there are districts where neither party has a dominant position. After analysing the House election results 2000-2010 from the perspective of successfully elected challengers, the diploma thesis concludes that when the district was (according to specified criteria) safe for one party, challenger of the other party had no chance of being elected.
