The fast and wide-ranging changes in wine local and world market as well as its significant impact on some wineries, have encouraged this study. The main objective is the analysis on exports of Brazilian wines after the so called ‘Plano Real’, the government’s economical-financial plan, the analysis of performances on international wine markets, strategies and perspectives for the sector. Globalization and formation of new markets as the Mercosul - Southern Common Market, EU - European Union and, FTTS, Free Trade Area of Americas have directly or indirectly affected strategies on the sector. Strategical actions have also been adapted and its incomes influenced by the environment and culture of the country. About the contents of strategies it is worth mentioning that strategies for products and production were similar in all wineries. As for strategical alliances, eight of the wineries have taken part on any. It was also possible to detect that all the strategies are inter-related, given the objectives of the wine sector. We could conclude that the sector is implementing the Strategical Development Plan ‘Visão 2025’ which is being elaborated by the winery sector.

Quanto aos dizeres de rotulagem foi observada uma necessidade de complementação da atual legislação específica para vinhos, com a finalidade de melhorar a qualidade das informações oferecidas ao consumidor através dos rótulos dos vinhos / Abstract: Wine consumption in Brazil has been increasing in 20% in the last decade, and its sales have been disseminating mainly due to offer and production increase, and to health benefits attributed to it. The analysis of trace elements in wine is of great importance for quality control, authenticity, metal bioavailability and toxicity study, aiming at granting safety to consumers. This paper describes the development of a method which employs atomic absorption spectrometry with graphite oven in order to determine arsenic, cadmium, copper and lead in Brazilian wines samples. A preliminary acid digestion has not been necessary in the sample preparation. The heating program employed to the graphite oven has been optimized for the different types of wine and the samples have been diluted in proportion of 1:3 with nitric acid (65% v/v) and hydrogen peroxide (30% m/m). The analytical curve has been prepared in aqueous medium and some modifiers have been investigated for each element. The determinations have been performed in the following linear ranges 10-100 µg L-1 Cu; 5,0 - 60 µg L-1 Pb; 0,5 - 2,0 µg L-1 Cd; 10 - 60 µg L-1 As. The qualification limits obtained were 11,5; 2,5; 0,22 e 5,0 µg L-1, respectively. The recoveries obtained ranged from 92-103% (red wine) and 99-106% (white wine) for Cu, 97-107% (red wine) and 95-101% (white wine) for Pb, 89-102% (red wine) and 98-106% (white wine) for Cd, and 103-106% (red wine) and 99-107% (white wine) for As. Brazilian wines, about 45 samples from Campinas/SP local market have been analyzed at several Brazilian regions. The contents of As, Cd, Cu and Pb have been determined in the samples and the amounts found out were below the contents established by the Brazilian legislation. The contribution of those elements on the diet of an adult have been calculated, and the amounts have shown that the studied wines presented low contribution. The pH levels and the total polyphenols contents have also been determined, the samples presented compatible rates according to the literature, with average rates for polyphenol in table wines at 2046,0 mg L-1, red wines 1443,0 mg L-1 and sparking 1606,0 mg L-1. The pH rates varied from 2,8 to 3,8 among the wines. The accessibility and the dialysis fraction through the in vitro method have also been studied for the elements As, Cd, Cu and Pb in the wines. The results show that for all elements soluble fractions greater than 37% and higher than 43% dialyzable indicating high capacity accessibility. As for labeling was observed a need complement the current legislation for wine in order to improve the quality of information offered to consumers through wine labels / Doutorado / Ciência de Alimentos / Doutora em Ciência de Alimentos

The development and implementation of an online subscription information centre for the South African wine and brandy industryDippenaar, Christine 08 January 2009 (has links)
M.A. / This thesis summarises research into the feasibility and subsequent implementation of a subscription based online and electronic information resource centre for the South African wine and brandy industry. A business case was compiled and accepted by key decision makers in the industry. The information resource centre was established under a recognised industry body to ensure equal access to all the role-players in the industry. The benefits of a centralised industry information resource centre have been demonstrated to result in: ► Reduced information acquisition cost ► No unnecessary duplication of high cost items, such as market analysis reports ► Improved and accelerated dissemination of information within the local industry through the use of a full electronic distribution strategy ► A point of contact for information for all role-players in the local industry and not just those organisations or institutions which have large research and marketing budgets ► A consistent and a unified database of local and international holdings within the local industry.

The chalice and the cup : the changing role of wine in the High Middle AgesGoosen, Johanna Maureen 05 1900 (has links)
This thesis explores the absence of the chalice in the Christian ritual of the Eucharisti n the thirteenth century. The absence of the chalice in the ritual indicates the absence of wine. In an interdisciplinary approach, this study integrates the historiographies of viticulture as well as of the Christian liturgy to answer the question: why did wine disappear from the Eucharist in the high Middle Ages? It is specifically focused on the northern regions of France, as this region is understudied in terms of viticulture.
An exploration of the historiographies of viticulture and liturgy shows that they are segregated. Liturgical scholarship is largely theological in character. Any explanation for the absence of the chalice offered only refers to sacred trends. The historiography of viticulture is either strictly geographic and economic in character, or strictly cultural. Both strands of historiography are teleological in that they work towards the modern cultural, economic, or geographic importance of wine.
By problematizing and integrating these distinct historiographies, is it possible to paint a fuller picture of the change in the Eucharist. Closely tied to the rise of towns and town culture, wine grew in expense and status. Also in this urban setting, wine became an important part of drinking culture, with a close connection to secular life. At the same time, concern for the spiritual purity of the ritual was growing. The belief in the real presence of Christ in the elements of the Eucharist was part of this growing spirituality. Wine was not only closely connected with impious lay practices, but its biblical symbolism was also ambivalent. These factors pushed the laity and the Church away from using wine in the Eucharist. At the same time, the principle of concomitance and the veneration of the host pulled people towards the use of bread in the ritual.
By explaining more completely the absence of the chalice in the thirteenth century, this thesis aims to show the broader implications of this narrow doctrinal issue as well as to underscore the value of an approach that brings together separate historiographical traditions. / Arts, Faculty of / History, Department of / Graduate

Eudialyte Geochronology: Investigating the Timing of REE Mineralization in the Grenville ProvinceLeich, Alexander January 2020 (has links)
Thesis advisor: Ethan F. Baxter / The Proterozoic Kipawa Syenite Complex and Red Wine Intrusive Suite have both been explored as potential REE ore bodies and are a heretofore unexploited REE resource. This study improves upon the internal-isochron eudialyte geochronology method developed by Sjöqvist et al. (2020) through the addition of Electron Microprobe mapping prior to precise MicroMill sampling to build Sm/Nd internal mineral isochrons to directly date this potential rare earth element ore mineral. We show that Nb and Ta concentrations correlate well with Sm/Nd ratios in zoned eudialyte crystals, providing a qualitative map to guide microsampling. At the Kipawa Syenite Complex two internal eudialyte isochrons yield ages of 1066±56 Ma (MSWD=1.7) and 1109±53 Ma (MSWD=1.2) while a multi-sample eudialyte bulk isochron produces an age of 1092±53 Ma (MWSD= 1.5). The weighted average of the three isochrons is 1090±31 Ma, and gives the age of eudialyte formation across the Kipawa Syenite Complex. Nd model ages confirm derivation from older continental crust with TDM=2.28. At the Red Wine Intrusive Suite single internal eudialyte isochron yields an age of 765±240 Ma (MSWD=3.7) while the high-Nb sector of this crystal yields an age of 704±120 Ma (MSWD=1.6). A multi-sample eudialyte and mosandrite bulk isochron produces an age of 989± 150 Ma (MSWD=15). The latter age reflects original Grenvillian crystallization of REE ore-minerals, while the age of the high-Nb zone reflects a younger, heretofore unrecognized recrystallization event. Nd model ages suggest derivation from the Proterozoic crust with TDM=1.80. Examination of Nd model ages and geochemical data from five agpaitic deposits (Red Wine, Kipawa, Ilímaussaq, Norra Kärr, Lovozero) reveals three distinct deposit types identified as the Lovozero type, the Grenville type, and the Kipawa type. / Thesis (MS) — Boston College, 2020. / Submitted to: Boston College. Abstract The subject of the thesis is architectural study of the Winery hotel Hrůdek with a salon of wines, with a wellness and with a congress centre. The locality of the local name of Hrůdek is situated north of the Velké Pavlovice municipality, at a small hill behind the Upper Fishpond, in place of a former henhouse. The building site, owing to its uphill position, provides admirable view of the Trkmanka stream valley. The object designed is separately standing and due to its emplacement it creates an outstanding view point of neighbourhood. The object is designed in such manner tat it would fit together with the surrounding landscape. There are applied natural materials as wood, stone. Mass of the building is divided into two objects, A and B, connected by means of a subbasement. The public outdoor areas are fixed between these buildings and are terraced. From the upper terrace there is situated entrance into the building A with the reception desk, restaurant, congress hall and wellness. We can get into the building through the connection corridor in the subbasement or from the upper terrace. In the B building B there is situated accommodation of the **** standard. Then leaseable wine-cellars and a wine bar accessible from the lower terrace. The object layout is interestingly solved. Such layout offers to the visitor countless interesting sights and views of the surrounding landscape. Keywords: Winery hotel, wine salon, wellness, congress centre, restaurant, wine-cellars, presentation of wines, tasting cellars
