Nach der Euro-Einführung und der Jahr-2000-Umstellung stellt der Umbau der heutigen Kernanwendungssysteme auf den Großrechnersystemen unter z/OS die nächste große Herausforderung dar, insbesondere bei Unternehmen im Financial-Services-Bereich (Banken und Versicherungen). Der vorliegende Beitrag führt in die Systemarchitektur einer „Transaktionsmaschine“ ein, die als Middlewarekomponente für das Reengineering von Kernanwendungssystemen verwendet werden kann. Die Transaktionsmaschine stellt einen neuartigen Ansatz dar, der geeignet ist, die Herausforderungen im zentralen Serverbereich der großen Unternehmen und staatlichen Organisationen zu adressieren. Der Fokus liegt hierbei auf dem Entwurf der abstrakten Systemarchitektur und deren Charakteristika, geprägt
durch funktionale und nichtfunktionale Anforderungen. Als praktische Beispielszenarien werden Projekterfahrungen der Firma IBM im Umfeld von Abwicklungssystemen bei Transaktionsbanken aufgezeigt. / This Paper introduces a new System Architecture of a Transaction Engine which can be used as a middleware component to reengineer core application systems. Starting with the requirement analysis in an existing customer environment and mapping these to key design criteria’s this paper leads to the design of an abstract System Architecture. At the end we show how this Transaction Engine could be used in a real customer environment as a platform for reengineering core application systems. We are using some practical example scenarios based on IBM’s experience in the transaction banking area.

This paper is primarily focused on developers wanting to learn the essentials of developing mainframe applications on the IBM`s Interactive System Productivity Facility (ISPF) platform. It describes the components of the ISPF environment, focusing mainly on the two components most used in mainframe application development: The ISPF Dialog Manager and the ISPF Program Development Facility (PDF). Second part of the paper is a hands-on tutorial, where the reader is guided trough the creation of a set of simple interactive ISPF applications, with focus on covering the most used features of the platform. Within the paper it is assumed that any reader interested in this topic has basic mainframe skills and knowledge, including user knowledge of ISPF PDF, as it is usually the primary tool for dataset manipulation and editing in the z/OS mainframe environment. A wider skill set is assumed for readers who want to go through the tutorial, for example REXX and z/OS assembler basics. However none of these skills are necessary, nor expected, from those who are mainly interested in finding out what ISPF is and what it can offer to z/OS applications and their developers.

Das Buch führt ein in die Welt des Mainframe und soll dem Leser einen einführenden Überblick geben. Band 1 ist der Einführung in z/OS gewidmet, während sich Band 2 mit der Internet Integration beschäftigt. Ergänzend werden in Band 3 praktische Übungen unter z/OS dargestellt.

In the thesis I am presenting a plugin in the integrated development environment Eclipse. Plugin is designed to support writing code in JCL programming language. In the first part of the thesis I am focusing on the mainframe platform from the IBM corporation on which the JCL language is used. I also focus on the z/OS operating system and it`s components required for adequate runtime environment for JCL language. In the next section I am discussing the Eclipse environment which is used as runtime platform for the plugin. As a base for the plugin is used an Xtext framework. The framework is specifically designed for development of custom domain specific languages.

In dieser Arbeit werden die Konzepte der Benutzerverwaltung und des Ressourcenschutzes unter z/OS mit RACF erläutert und anhand des Zusammenspiels mit TSO konkretisiert. Außerdem werden die Konzepte von RACF mit denen des UNIX-Ressourcenschutz verglichen. Dazu werden auch die UNIX System Services, die UNIX-konforme Schnittstelle von z/OS, analysiert. Mit Hilfe eines REXX-Scriptes werden, aufbauend auf RACF-Befehlen, komplexere Aufgaben der Benutzerverwaltung implementiert.

IT analytiker har många gånger gett IBMs stordator en dödsdom. Redan 1991 skrev denerkände kritikern Stewart Alsop, dåvarande chefredaktör på InfoWorld att den sista stordatornskulle tas ur bruk den 15 mars 1996. Det visade sig att detta uttalande var felaktigt, vilketStewart Alsop även erkände i InfoWorld bara dagar innan hans förutsägelse skulle ha infallit.När vi nu går in i ytterligare ett paradigmskifte i och med att många tjänster går över tillmolnet, ställer jag i denna uppsats frågan om IBMs stordator har en framtid i en molnbaseradIT värld, och hur den i så fall ser ut. Syftet är att genom litteraturstudier och intervjuer undersöka om IBMs stordator kan överlevaytterligare en genomomgripande teknikrevolution eller om den har spelat ut sin roll.Undersökningen mynnar ut i slutsatserna att IBMs stordator har en stark position i dagsläget,framförallt inom bank och finanssektorn d.v.s. inom branscher med speciellt höga kravbeträffande tillgänglighet, skalbarhet, och säkerhet. Sannolikt har stordatorn en viktig roll attspela även för framtidens satsningar i molnet. IBM erbjuder redan idag molnlösningar sominkluderar mainframes, och det framgick även i de intervjuer som gjordes på IBM, att de seren ljus framtid för IBMs stordatorer. De menar att IBM inte bara följer med, utan även är medoch leder utvecklingen inom molntjänster, och att det är främst för de öppna standarderna somLinux och Unix som IBM kommer att ha den ljusaste framtiden. Det faktum att IBM varje årinvesterar miljardbelopp i utvecklingen av sina stordatorer talar också sitt tydliga språk, d.v.s.att IBM fullt ut verkar tro på att stordatorn har en viktig roll att spela i den molnbaserade ITvärldsom just nu växer fram
