The Moravian town of Zlin has now dual look: It is not only historical important architectural monument, but it is also dynamic town with vital public and bussiness life and University of Tomas Baťa. The factory covers important architectural and spiritual heritage, which is even today everywhere visible. Designed science-technical park is situated in Zlin, in previous Baťa´s factory, in the place of late swimming pool for employee. Manufactory is typical of its urbanistic solution. Location of science-technical park is on the border line of the “new“ and “old“ centre of Zlin and shakeups inauguration centre-line of previous factory.

The main idea of the project is a gradual interpenetration of a town and nature and concurrently the free connection of the new projected area Rybníky and neighbouring quarter Prštné. And so the density of housing gradually becomes thinner and the density of vegetation thicker from the South to the North. At the same moment the form and function of buildings are changing. There is a sport area in greenery between Rybníky and Prštné as an open connection of new buildings in Rybníky and old ones in Prštné. Entrances of the area are defined by two dominant administration buildings. A local centre of the area is a park with a pavilion in its heart and a near public courtyard with café, kindergarten and the home for the elderly and singles. The projected area is full of cycle paths which connect the quarter and the Zlín city centre. The riverbank with a relaxation zone is created along the river Dřevnice.

The diploma thesis aims to create the project of a new hotel in the town of Zlín, part Kudlov. The building consists of three above-ground and one underground floor. The underground floor houses the hotel's technical facilities, luggage storage and dirty laundry storage. On the first floor there are a restaurant with a bar, a kitchen with storage, staff changing rooms, staff room, entrance, reception and sanitary facilities. On the second floor there are a conference and lounge room, a director's office, six guest rooms and additional sanitary facilities. On the third floor there are twelve guest rooms.

Diploma thesis addresses the new use of film studios in the city of Zlin – Kudlov. Solved territory is located about 2.5 km southeast of Zlin. The aim of the design was to create a functioning unit, which combines several functions, both existing and proposed. The resort is located on one of the highest points in the area with beautiful views of the surrounding area. In the area of film studios is therefore proposed tower, which is inspired by the film strip and dominates the area. Film studios are also associated with the emergence of the Zlin Film Festival. There is therefore designed pedestrian zone with squares for cultural events and exhibitions related to film themes. The proposal seeks to create a living organism that would be returned to the film studios lost life.

8 THE FOOD DESERTS ISSUE - THE CASE STUDY OF ZLÍN ABSTRACT This thesis attempts to provide an introduction to the 'food deserts' theme by outlining how the problem of access to food for households has become an increasingly important issue in the transforming Czech retail market. The first part reviews the development of new types of retail space in the Czech Republic in the past two decades. The emphasis is principally on the growth of new formats of food retailing - supermarkets, hypermarkets and discount stores - which to a greater or lesser extent have affected every local market and supported spatial restructuring of the Czech retailing. On the other hand, it has also changed the pattern of traditional shopping facilities, which in turn have often experienced decline. The second part of this work describes the retail change in Zlín and analyses the local distribution of food retail stores. It takes both quantitative and qualitative approach to define areas with relatively poor access to adequate food provision. There, it particularly focuses on consumers with lower mobility who are thus more restricted in their grocery choice. The purpose of this thesis is the evaluation of sustainable tourism in the Zlín Region. The theoretical part focuses on history and definition of sustainable development and sustainable tourism. This part also contains general analysis of tourism in the Zlín Region. The practical part deals with the evaluation of sustainable tourism in the Zlín Region in accordance with the indicators of sustainable tourism and questionnaire research. This research was focused on general knowledge in sustainable tourism between residents, visitors, entrepreneurs and regional authority in Zlín Region. All obtained findings are summarized at the end in SWOT analysis.

The thesis is based on regional analysis of industrial zones and empirical research of firms located in industrial zones in the Zlín region where searches and evaluates the factors of localization firms. Industrial zones are often considered as an instrument to raise the economic level of the region, but they must comply with market demands for localization in order to use their capacities. The theoretical part presents a view into the theories of localization in order to classify the most important location factors. The following practical part first describes the 17 industrial zones in the region. These characteristics form the conditions of comparison and evaluation of localization factors in connection with empirical research of firms located in industrial zones. The analysis also marginally deals with the selected impacts of industrial zones.

Thesis focuses on the comparison of the technical parameters of the 1920s window and refurbished one to the current conditions. The refurbished window was tested according to the relevant tests in the STV testing laboratory in Zlín and based on the results these values were compared. Thesis also includes the economic balance of the problem. Fur-thermore, there is a proposal for improving the insulation properties of double windows described. The diploma thesis is a follow-up to the bachelor's thesis, so the refurbished win-dow was again tested according to the three most important technical requirements. It was a test of air permeability, load resistance to wind pressure and water tightness. The heat transfer coefficient was also calculated.

This master thesis deals with topic of specific urban political régime of the town of Zlín between years of 1923 and 1938. In the interwar period Zlín was ruled by monopolist rule of Baťa Shoes Company. This firm had dominant economic position in the respective town and it created own candidate list composed of company managers which was winning municipal elections. Town of Zlín is example of specific phenomenon of capitalist paternalism (our own term) realized over area of so called company town. In our study we provide basic historic background of mentioned terms. Then we explore particular aspects of Baťa's rule over Zlín like factors of cultural, economic or employment policies. After all of these aspects we try to create whole picture of Baťa's régime. We compare it with other flourishing régimes of the period too. Baťa's Zlín régime ("batism) had strong modernist and emancipatory effect on its participants. In the same time it formed and manipulated with these respective participants without expectable defense reactions of these people. We would like to examine specific power relations of Baťa's rule and to describe its behavior and reception in Zlín society of interwar time.
