This study aims to explore how sports clubs and municipalities in the north western part of Skåne can work together to retain youth in sports clubs and promote physical activity. The study investigates various strategies and methods that can help retain and attract youth to sports clubs and encourage their continued participation in physical activity. Through interviews with sports clubs and municipalities, this study provides insights and recommendations for creating a sustainable environment that encourages youth to continue with physical activity and engage in sports clubs. The qualitative research method was chosen as it allows for a deeper understanding of the work conducted by sports clubs and municipalities. The findings highlight the importance of municipalities' commitments in creating favorable conditions for youth engagement, including financial support, assistance with facilities, and leadership and organizational development training. Additionally, coaches' leadership qualities play a crucial role in influencing youth engagement and motivation within sports clubs. In conclusion, this study suggests that sports clubs and municipalities can work together to create attractive environments for youth to participate in sports clubs and engage in physical activity. By offering diverse activities, providing resources and support, and emphasizing a sense of belonging and autonomy, sports clubs can enhance youth engagement and motivation, thus reducing dropout rates during adolescence.
