Abstrakt Bakgrund: Döden ses som en naturlig del av livet. På samma sätt anses det naturligt att barn ska uppnå vuxen ålder. Att vårda barn som är döende kan vara påfrestande men också lärorik för vårdpersonalen. Syfte: Syftet med litteraturstudien var att beskriva vårdpersonals erfarenheter av att vårda barn i livets slutskede. Metod: En litteraturstudie bestående av åtta kvalitativa artiklar har genomförts. Artiklarnas resultat granskades, analyserades och sammanställdes enligt en modell av Friberg. Resultat: Fyra kategorier och tretton underkategorier identifierades. Kategorierna var: känslomässiga reaktioner, att hantera den svåra situationen, organisatoriska brister och att sträva efter god omvårdnad. Slutsats: Denna litteraturstudie visar som helhet att vårdpersonal beskriver en känslomässig påfrestning att vårda barn i livets slutskede. De beskriver sorg, tomhet, att de inte räcker till och moralisk stress. De beskriver också hur de försöker hantera påfrestningarna, vikten av stöd, men de pekar också på organisatoriska brister. Sammantaget pekar detta resultat på att vårdpersonal kan vara i riskzonen för att drabbas av ohälsa. / Abstract Background: Death is seen as a natural part of life. Similarly, it is considered natural for children to reach adulthood. To nurture children who are dying can be stressful but also rewarding for the health care professionals. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe the health professionals experiences of providing end of life care for children. Method: A literature study consisting of eight qualitative articles has been completed. The articles results were reviewed, analyzed and compiled according to the model of Friberg. Results: Four categories and thirteen subcategories were identified. The categories were: emotional reactions, to cope with the difficult situation, organizational shortcomings and to strive for good nursing care. Conclusion: This literature review shows overall that health professionals describes an emotional strain to care for children in the final stages of life. They describe sadness, emptiness, that they were not enough, and moral stress. They also describe how they try to cope with the stresses, the importance of support, but they also point to organizational weaknesses. Taken together, this results shows that health workers may be at risk of suffering from health issues.
