Previous issue date: 2017-05-30 / A presente dissertação analisa a cobertura do Jornal do Commercio sobre as manifestações populares relacionadas o impeachment de Dilma Rousseff realizadas em 2016. Tais protestos levaram milhares de pessoas às ruas do país e foram pautas constantes na mídia nacional e internacional. Especificamente, verificou o posicionamento do jornal acerca das manifestações, avaliando como as disputas políticas foram enquadradas, conferindo a eventualidade da hipótese de criminalização dos protestos ou juízos de valor sobre os mesmos e, por fim, procurando constatar se a cobertura jornalística contribuiu para intensificar a divisão entre manifestantes favoráveis e contrários ao impeachment. Para tal, foi desenvolvida uma perspectiva metodológica qualiquantitativa a partir da combinação dos métodos de Análise de Conteúdo e Análise do Discurso e levantamento bibliográfico sobre política e democracia, relação entre jornalismo e política, questões sobre discurso e poder, construção social da realidade, mídia e movimentos sociais, entre outros. Foram utilizados diversos autores como Habermas (1983; 1984; 1997; 2002), Hannan Arendt (2004), Norberto Bobbio (1997; 1998; 2000), Noam Chomsky (2013), Beger & Luckmann (1974; 2010), Van Dijk (1992; 2008), Michel Foucault (2014), Pierre Bourdieu (1989. 1990), Antônio Rubim (2016), John B. Thompson (2002), Venício Lima (2003; 2006; 2010; 2013; 2014), entre outros. Percebeu-se que a cobertura do jornal enquadrou os protestos pró impeachment como expressões legítimas do desejo da sociedade, enquanto que as manifestações contra a saída da presidente foram apresentadas como protestos de uma parcela da população movida por interesses político-partidário por estar vinculada ao PT. Assim, ficou evidente a seguinte classificação dos manifestantes: os favoráveis ao impeachment foram apresentados como cidadãos brasileiros imbuídos da missão de representação de toda a população; e os contrários foram caracterizados como militantes do PT. Tais mecanismos denotam juízo de valor por parte do periódico no que concerne às manifestações contrárias ao impeachment de Dilma, que foram dissimulados para aparentar isenção na representação noticiosa. / This master's thesis analyzes the coverage of Jornal do Commercio about the protests calling for and aganist Dilma Rousseff’s impeachment, in 2016. Such protests led thousands of people to the streets of the country and were recurring subjects in the national and international media. More specifically, this thesis verified the newspaper's position on the protests, evaluating how the political disputes were framed, testing the hypothesis of criminalization of the protests or value judgments about them, and, finally, trying to verify if the journalistic coverage contributed to intensify the division between supporters and protesters calling for Dilma Rousseff’s removal. For this purpose, a methodological perspective was developed based on the combination of the Content Analysis techniques and Discourse Analysis besides bibliographic survey on politics and democrac;, relations between journalism and politics; questions about discourse and power, social construction, media and social movements, among other subjects. Several authors were used in the research, such as Habermas (1983, 1984, 1997); Norbert Bobbio (1997, 1998, 2000); Noam Chomsky (2013); Beger & Luckmann (1974, 2010); Van Dijk (2008); Michel Foucault (2014); Pierre Bourdieu (1989, 1990); Antônio Rubim (2016); John B. Thompson (2002) and Venício Lima (2003, 2006, 2010, 2013, 2014). It was possible to perceive that the newspaper's coverage frames the pro-impeachment protests as legitimate expressions of the society's desire, whereas the manifestations against the president's removal were presented as protests of a portion of the population moved by partisan influence because it was linked to PT (The Workers' Party). To sum up, the following classification of the protesters was evident: those who favored impeachment were composed as Brazilian citizens imbued with the representation mission of the entire population and, on the other hand, the Dilma’s supporters were characterized as PT militants. Such mechanisms denote the newspaper's value judgment in relation to the manifestations contrary to Dilma's impeachment, which were concealed to appear journalistic impartiality.
