Bakgrund: I tidigare forskning framgår det att sjuksköterskor upplever att det finns en brist av tid för att kunna ge äldre personer den omvårdnad han eller hon är i behov av. Det framgår även att många äldre personer är tvungna att flytta in på ett äldreboende på grund av försämrad hälsa. Anhöriga förväntar sig även att de äldre personernas vård planeras i enlighet med deras preferens och självständighet. Syfte: Att beskriva äldre personers upplevelser av att leva på ett äldreboende. Metod: En systematisk litteraturöversikt som består av en beskrivande syntes, där elva kvalitativa artiklar användes till analysen. Resultat: De äldre personerna upplevde att det var svårt att anpassa sig till livet på äldreboendet och strävade efter att finna en acceptans, de upplevde även att de förlorade sin frihet när de blev beroende av andra för hjälp. För att kunna få en meningsfull vardag upplevde de äldre att de behövde goda relationer och givande aktiviteter. Slutsats: För att de äldre personerna ska kunna trivas behövs de ses som individer med unika behov och problem. Den äldre personen är i behov av trygga och stabila relationer till både vårdpersonal och anhörig. / Background: Previous research shows that the nurse feels that there is a lack of time to be able to give the elderly person the care he or she needs. It also appears that many elderly people are forced to move into a nursing home due to deteriorating health. Relatives also expect the elderly person's care to be planned in accordance with their preference and independence. Aim: To describe older people’s experience of living in a nursing home. Method: A systematic literature study consisting of a descriptive synthesis, in which eleven qualitative articles were used for the analysis. Result: The elderly people found it difficult to adapt to life in the nursing home and struggled to find acceptance, they also felt that they lost their freedom when they became dependent on others for help. In order to have a meaningful everyday life, the elderly felt that they needed good relationships and rewarding activities. Conclusion: In order for the older people to be able to thrive, they need to be seen as individuals with unique needs and problems. The elderly person is in need of safe and stable relationships with both care staff and relatives.
