I Sverige insjuknar varje årca 2270 personer i hudcancern MM (Malignt melanom). The sun is both wonderful and important for the body to get enough of vitamin D, but it can also be dangerous. In Sweden approximately 2270 people become ill in skin cancer MM (malignant melanoma) each year. The disease could be avoided in many cases, if people had more respect for the sun and it´s harmful effects. This understanding is essential if the growths of MM are to be reduced. The purpose: The aim was to gain further knowledge about the patients' experiences of and strategies for dealing with MM. Method: The study was designed as a literature review based on 10 quantitative and one qualitative article analyzed according to Carlsson and Eiman (2003) analytical model. Results: The study showed that patients experienced feelings such as shock, anxiety and depression when diagnosed with MM. To cope with the diagnosis the patients used both emotionally oriented and problemoriented coping strategies. The results showed that patients who used problemoriented coping strategies experienced less anxiety, depression and a better quality of life. Conclusion: Clear and comprehensive information about the disease and high social support decreases the risk of anxiety, depression and increases the use of problemoriented coping strategies.
