Flerspråkighet i grundskolans tidigare år : Lärares attityder till språk i klassrummet

My questions in this study have been: In what ways are other languages than Swedish and English used in the classroom? Do the teachers see the students' native language as an asset or as a problem for the individual? What attitudes to the language contained in the class appear among the surveyed teachers? I interviewed six primary school teachers in grades 1-3 about their attitude and approach to different language presence in educational practice. The result of my study shows that teachers know a lot about what research says about the importance of a student’s mother tongue but lack of time and that they do not understand all the students' native language was given as the biggest excuse for their choice not to practice their knowledge.
