This study aims to investigate what preparations can facilitate the introduction of speech recognition at a healthcare unit in Region Västra Götaland. The Region has decided on a widespread introduction of speech recognition as a preparation for the upcoming change of record system. The aim is to investigate the healthcare staff’s perceptions before the introduction of speech recognition and the handling of administrative tasks in a healthcare unit. To answer our study, we conducted a qualitative survey at the commissioning unit and a semi-structured interview at a healthcare unit where they tested speech recognition. In the study, we received two proposals on how administrative tasks connected to dictations can be handled. The first proposal is that the doctors make an administrative dictation in the dictation program Medspeech. The second proposal is that the medical secretaries go through the appointments based on a list in the patient administrative system Elvis. For a successful implementation of new routines, communication, training, environmental monitoring, routine descriptions, and technical conditions are important. In the study, we have also identified examples of current tasks the medical secretaries need to spend more time on as well as new tasks that they can undertake. Further lessons from the study are to let changes take time and to have a positive attitude toward new ways of working as an employee. /
Examen i vårdadministration, YH-utbildning: 20 Yh-poäng
