Conclusao: A qualidade de vida de pacientes apos queimadura apresentou correlacao positiva com a autoestima, capacidade funcional e dor / Background: Burn injury is a traumatic experience that has social,
economic and public health implications and deserves the attention of
governmental agencies and multidisciplinary teams. Objective: To
evaluate quality of life, self-esteem, functional ability, and pain in burn
patients. Methods: This was a multicenter, cross-sectional, analytical
study. Thirty patients aged 18 to 59 years, who had suffered burn injury
during the past 6 to 24 months, were included in the study. A questionnaire
was used to collect clinical and demographic data. Patients were assessed
with the Short Form 36 Health Survey (SF-36), Burn Specific Health
Scale-Revised (BSHS-R), Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSE)/EPMUNIFESP,
Health Assessment Questionnaire (HAQ-20), and Visual
Analog Scale (VAS) for pain. Statistical analysis was performed using
Student’s t-test, analysis of variance (ANOVA), Tukey’s test, KruskalWallis
test, Dunn’s test, and Spearman's test. Results: Most of the patients
(56.7 %, n=17) were men and the mean age was 36.1 years. Buns were
mainly caused by flammable liquids (50 % of patients) and the mean burn
size was 21 % total body surface area. Men reported significantly better
health status on the role emotional (p=0.023) and mental health (p=0.047)
SF-36 subscales. A significant association was found between “alcohol
use” and SF-36 scores on the bodily pain (p=0.025), vitality (p=0.041), and
mental health (p=0.023) subscales, BSHS-R scores (p=0.015), RSE scores
(p=0.044), and VAS pain scores (p=0.007), and between “drug use” and
SF-36 scores on bodily pain (p=0.008). Conclusion: Burn injuries had a
negative impact on the health-related quality of life, functional ability, selfesteem,
and pain. / BV UNIFESP: Teses e dissertações
