Previous issue date: 2012-10-22 / The general social insurance system mainly relies on monetary mechanisms for coping with societal needs, elevating the theme "calculation and adjustment of benefits" to one of the main topics of study in the social security law. Through the analysis of criteria for determining the value and realignment of the benefits, the study aims to identify the main elements that influence the composition of the income as well as analyze the adequacy of the legal criteria of adjustment with the guarantees established by the Constitution of 1988. Using predominantly theoretical research, this study follows the deductive method, using also a comparative analysis to verify the compliance, by the legislator and public administration, of the constitutional guarantees related to the restatement of the contributions, benefit irreducibility and the maintenance of its real value / O Regime Geral de Previdência Social utiliza majoritariamente prestações de natureza pecu-niária para a consecução de suas finalidades, elevando o tema cálculo e reajuste dos benefí-cios a um dos principais tópicos de estudo no direito previdenciário. Através da análise dos critérios de cálculo e reajustamento dos benefícios, procuramos identificar os principais ele-mentos que influenciam na fixação do valor inicial das prestações previdenciárias, bem como verificar a adequação dos critérios legais de recomposição dos benefícios às garantias estabe-lecidas pela Constituição Federal de 1988. A pesquisa adota de forma preponderante o méto-do dedutivo, valendo-se também da análise comparativa para fins de verificação do cumpri-mento, pelo legislador e pela administração pública, das garantias constitucionais relativas à correção dos salários de contribuição integrantes do cálculo do benefício, irredutibilidade do valor das prestações e preservação do seu valor real
