Previous issue date: 2009-09 / Esta pesquisa tem como propósito estudar o ‘discurso’ e sua atuação relativa a uma das
manifestações da ‘questão social’ – a problemática que envolve os ‘cidadãos e as cidadãs em
situação de rua’. Para isso, foram analisadas materialidades linguísticas (e de outras semioses)
de cinco textos de circulação nacional, dos gêneros ‘Constituição’, ‘charge eletrônica’,
‘notícia’ e ‘notícia televisiva’; veiculados no site www.charges.com.br, na Folha de S.Paulo,
na revista Veja e no Jornal Nacional. Também faz parte do corpus 20 entrevistas
semiestruturadas. O arcabouço teórico do estudo está vinculado ao programa de pesquisa da
Análise de Discurso Crítica (Wodak e Meyer, 2009), fundamentando-se principalmente na
abordagem dialético-relacional de Fairclough (trad. 2001, 2003, 2009) e no trabalho de
Chouliaraki e Fairclough (1999) que faz uma aproximação com a Ciência Social Crítica
dentro de uma perspectiva que é desenvolvida nesta pesquisa: a investigação de aspectos
semiótico-discursivo-sociais. Desenvolvendo uma pesquisa qualitativa, dentro dos
pressupostos metodológicos dessa abordagem em Análise de Discurso Crítica, o discurso é
compreendido como um dos elementos das práticas sociais. Os textos são analisados por meio
das categorias: gênero, intertextualidade, escolha / significado lexical, representação de
agentes sociais e interdiscursividade. A ideologia é examinada no corpus considerando
principalmente o trabalho de Thompson (1995). Para possibilitar uma prática
inter/transdisciplinar, desenvolveu-se uma discussão sobre ‘questão social’, ‘exclusão social’
e ‘situação de rua’. Os resultados encontrados indicam o importante papel do discurso em
processos sociais, a validade dos estudos críticos da linguagem para abordar a problemática
social vivenciada pelas pessoas em situação de rua, a responsabilidade de designar essas
pessoas como cidadãs e cidadãos assegurando-lhes seus direitos até mesmo pela forma de
nomeação dentro de nosso sistema democrático. Constatou-se que a ‘exclusão social’ traz
consigo, em seu próprio nome e nos nomes que a acompanham, uma descrição ‘excludente’
de sociedade. Propõe-se, assim, a não utilização do termo ‘exclusão social’, por entender que
cidadãos e cidadãs do Brasil, em situação de rua ou não, fazem parte da mesma sociedade.
Dessa forma, somos responsáveis diante do problema social evidenciado. __________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / The aim of this research is to study the ‘discourse’ and its action on one of the manifestations
of the ‘social question’ – the situation of citizens who are living on the streets. Thus, five
nationally widespread texts are analysed on its linguistic and other semiotic aspects. The texts
cover the following genres: ‘The Brazilian Constitution’, ‘electronic cartoon’ (published on
the site www.charges.com.br), ‘news’ (on the newspaper Folha de S.Paulo; on the weekly
magazine Veja) and ‘TV news’ (on Jornal Nacional). Further, 20 semi-structured interviews
were conducted with research participants. The theoretical framework of this study is
affiliated to the Critical Discourse Analysis programme (Wodak and Weyer, 2009), based
mainly upon the theoretical work drawn up by Fairclough (1992, 2003, 2009 – dialecticalrelational
approach) and Chouliaraki and Fairclough (1999). These authors also draw upon
Critical Social Science, which is considered in this research too in its relation to linguisticdiscursive
issues. Given this study’s qualitative nature and its adherence to the dialecticalrelational
approach of Critical Discourse Analysis methodological precepts, it considers
discourse as an element of social practices. The texts are analysed according to: genre,
intertextuality, lexical selection / meaning, representation of social agents and interdiscursivity.
The aspects of ideology studied in the corpus is based mainly upon Thompson (1995). In
order to move towards an inter/transdisciplinar practice, discussions on ‘social question’,
‘social exclusion’ and ‘the situation of citizens who are living on the streets’ are developed.
The conclusions of this research indicate: the important role that discourse plays in social
processes, the value of critical language studies in analysing the social problem which is
investigated in this research, the responsibility for recognizing the citizenship of the people
that are living on the street by ensuring their rights on a democratic system until on the names
they are called. Moreover, it becomes evident that the ‘social exclusion’ (either considering
the expression itself or any of its synonyms) makes a problematic description of society.
Thus, the proposition is avoid using this term, by understanding that citizens of Brazil are part
of the same society, whether they are living on the streets or not. Consequently, we have
responsibilities in relation to this social problem.
