Hope and Trauma: Examining a Diathesis-Stress Model in Predicting Depressive and Anxious Symptoms in College Students

The present study sought to examine a diathesis-stress model involving hope and trauma history as predictors of depressive and anxious symptoms in a sample of 575 college students. Results from regression analyses indicated that hope and trauma were important and unique predictors of both depressive and anxious symptoms in students. Moreover, we found support for a significant HopeƗTrauma interaction in predicting both depressive and anxious symptoms. Some implications of the present findings are discussed.
