Previous issue date: 2012-01-24 / The theme of this study is the emergence of ethnic discourses and the struggles for recognition of the rights of the Quilombo communities in the contemporary Brazilian context. The research, which is in qualitative nature, favors the analysis of the meanings that individuals give their actions, in the space in which they build their lives and their relationships, as well as the broader social context in which these relationships occur. It is descriptive in nature and uses multiple sources and a variety of tools and techniques for gathering information. The technical procedures include a mix of elements from a field study such as participant observation, interviews and analysis of documents and bibliographies. The aim of this study is to reflect on the construction of knowledge of the Quilombo- communities, from a multidisciplinary socio-historical and anthropological theoretical perspective, which seeks to reveal the dialectic of discourses on equality and difference, found in Brazilian public sphere in the context of struggles for recognition of ethnic rights. The issues guiding this thesis refer to the historical constitution of discourses between actors in the public sphere in the implementation of rights for the Quilombola population in Brazil, seeking to analyze the tension between the notions of equality and difference, in the formulation of public policies in the Brazilian state, in order to identify the interests and political projects in dispute in the context of the rights of these populations. The results of this study show that the struggle for recognition of the rights of the Quilombo communities must be understood in the light of the phenomenon of ethnicity, to the extent that there is a process an identity that is built is demarcated, in the political field, by affirming difference while in the quest for equality. The affirmation of differences requires that the subjects relinquish the use of multiple strategies (legal, bureaucratic, economic, political, scientific), since, in the struggle of classifications, relations of power (material and symbolic) are imposed between the various interests at stake. Such interests, in the Quilombola field, are mediated by the discourses and practices of agents who ― "play" with classifications of what may be equality, difference, or what may be remaining in a dynamic and relational process. / O presente estudo tem como tema a emerg?ncia dos discursos ?tnicos e as lutas pelo reconhecimento de direitos das comunidades quilombolas no contexto brasileiro contempor?neo. A investiga??o, de cunho qualitativo, privilegia a analise dos significados que os indiv?duos d?o as suas a??es, no espa?o em que constroem as suas vidas e as suas rela??es, assim como com o contexto social mais amplo em que estas rela??es se d?o. O estudo caracteriza-se pelo tipo descritivo e utiliza m?ltiplas fontes, variados instrumentos e t?cnicas de coleta de informa??es. Os procedimentos t?cnicos mesclam elementos de um estudo de campo, como a observa??o participante, entrevistas e an?lise de documentos e bibliografias. O objetivo central do estudo ? o de refletir, sobre a constru??o do conhecimento com as comunidades quilombolas, a partir de um referencial te?rico s?cio-hist?rico e antropol?gico, de car?ter multidisciplinar, que busque desvelar a dial?tica dos discursos sobre igualdade e diferen?a, presentes na esfera p?blica brasileira, no contexto das lutas por reconhecimento de direitos ?tnicos. As quest?es que orientam a tese referem-se ? constitui??o hist?rica dos discursos entre os agentes da esfera p?blica na implementa??o de direitos para a popula??o quilombola no Brasil buscando analisar a tens?o entre as no??es de igualdade e diferen?a no processo de formula??o das pol?ticas p?blicas no ?mbito do Estado brasileiro, de modo a identificar os interesses e projetos pol?ticos em disputa no contexto dos direitos destas popula??es. Os resultados do estudo revelam que as lutas por reconhecimento de direitos das comunidades quilombolas devem ser compreendidas ? luz do fen?meno da etnicidade, na medida em que h? um processo de demarca??o de uma identidade que se constr?i no campo pol?tico por meio da afirma??o da diferen?a em busca da igualdade. A afirma??o das diferen?as exige que os sujeitos lancem m?o de m?ltiplas estrat?gias (jur?dicas, burocr?ticas, econ?micas, pol?ticas, cient?ficas), pois, nessa luta das classifica??es, imp?em-se rela??es de for?a materiais e simb?licas entre os diversos interesses em jogo. Tais interesses, no campo quilombola, passam a ser mediados pelos discursos e pelas pr?ticas dos agentes que ―"jogam" com as classifica??es do que seja igualdade, diferen?a ou mesmo remanescente num processo din?mico e relacional.
