Bakgrund: Beslutstagande är en av de viktigaste processerna inom alla ledningsnivåer. Det kontinuerliga behovet av att kunna ta bättre beslut anses vara kritiskt viktigt för ett företags både kortsiktiga och långsiktiga överlevnad. Bistående i detta moment så har beslutsstödsystem (BSS) i form av Business Intelligence (BI) skapats. Denna utveckling anses vara ett mycket behövligt hjälpmedel för organisationer som vill ta bättre och mer välgrundade beslut. Trots detta visar undersökningar att BI användaren stöter på många användarrelaterade problem samtidigt som studier visar att en minskad upplevd användbarhet av ett Business Intelligence System (BIS) både hindrar och underminerar medarbetarnas beslutstagande. Detta problem har således resulterat i ett intresse för att förstå och fastställa vad som påverkar användbarheten av BIS. Syfte: Syftet med denna studie är att förstå hur man kan öka användbarheten av BIS sett utifrån end-users perspektiv. Metod/Tillvägagångssätt: Studiens metod använder en kvalitativ ansats och inkluderar en fallstudie. Empiri har samlats in genom sex semi-strukturerade intervjuer från ett svenskt konsultföretag som har en egenutvecklad BI plattform. Slutsatser: Sammanfattningsvis kan användbarheten av BIS utifrån empirin förbättras genom ökad system expertis, data kvalité och flexibilitet. Praktiska följder: Från ett utvecklingsperspektiv kan studiens upptäckter hjälpa att belysa de faktorer som ökar användbarheten i BIS. Det kan även agera som ett vägvisande ramverk för att hjälpa företag i liknande sits där problem upplevs med BIS användning. Förslag till vidare forskning: Framtida empirisk forskning bör utföras i syftet att validera de framförda påståendena i uppsatsen. Det kan därför vara intressant att studera fler företag med variation på storlek och geografisk placering för att kunna evaluera skillnaden i erhållet resultat. Vidare anses även användbarheten kring Mobil BI redas ut då detta ligger i utvecklingsfokus på framtida marknader och organisationer. / Background: Decision making is one of the most important processes at all levels of management. The continuous need to be able to make better decisions is considered critically important to a company's short-term and long-term survival. Assisting in this step, decision support system (BSS) in the form of Business intelligence (BI) has been created. This is perceived as a necessary aiding tool for organizations that want to make better and more informed decisions. Nevertheless, studies show that the BI user encounters many user related problems while research also show that a reduced perceived usefulness of a Business Intelligence System (BIS) both supresses and undermines employees' decision-making. This problem has thus resulted in an interest in understanding and determining what affects the usefulness of BIS. Objective: The purpose of this study is to understand on how to increase the usefulness of BIS from an end-user perspective. Method / Approach: The study method uses a qualitative approach and includes a case study. Empirical data has been collected through six semi-structured interviews from a Swedish consulting firm that employs an inhouse developed BI platform. Conclusions: In summary, the usability of BIS from the empirical findings can be improved through increased system expertise, data quality and flexibility. Practical consequences: From a developmental perspective, the study's findings can help elucidate the factors that increase the usefulness of BIS. It can also act as a signposting framework to help companies in similar sites where problems are experienced with BIS use. Proposal for further research: Further research should be conducted with the purpose of verifying this thesis conclusions. It may therefore be interesting to study additional companies with variation in size as well as geographical location and evaluate the difference in results. Lastly, understanding the usability of Mobil BI could also be interesting to investigate as this is getting more popular in BIS of future markets and organizations.
