Previous issue date: 2010-10-04 / CAPES - Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / Esta pesquisa teve como objetivo investigar a percepção do envelhecimento feminino no
início do século XXI, em mulheres de uma cidade mineira de porte médio. Para tanto, também
se discutiu o envelhecimento feminino e suas abordagens, pesquisou-se sobre os aspectos
ligados à cultura e à negação do envelhecimento pelas mulheres. Ainda foi analisada a relação
entre a mulher e essa etapa da vida. A metodologia utilizada foi o estudo qualitativo
exploratório e a entrevista semiestruturada para a coleta de dados, os quais foram obtidos por
meio de um painel amostral de 47 participantes que partilhavam da mesma realidade
sociocultural. A partir das entrevistas gravadas e transcritas na íntegra, partiu-se para Análise
de Conteúdo e interpretação dos dados, com base no referencial teórico apresentado neste
estudo. Os relatos foram organizados em três grandes categorias temáticas: mulher, corpo e
envelhecimento, os quais se desdobraram em subcategorias. Assim, observou-se que, para as
mulheres do universo pesquisado, o fato de pertencer ao gênero feminino encontra-se atrelado
aos papéis sociais por elas mostrados e pelo sentimento que apontaram ao perceberem-se
mulher. No que diz respeito à categoria corpo, destacam-se o componente atitudinal, as
questões que se atrelam à perda da funcionalidade e a aparência, destacando-se a importância
do espelho, da vaidade, as marcas proporcionadas pelo envelhecimento e o ganho de peso.
Quanto à questão do envelhecimento, essas foram representadas pelas entrevistadas, a partir
das perdas advindas do envelhecer (como da autonomia, de aspectos sociais e da vida) e
também da atribuição de significado à menopausa como um marco no envelhecimento
feminino. / This study aimed to investigate the perception of female aging at the beginning of 21st
century, in women of a medium town from the state of Minas Gerais. To do so, it was also
discussed the female aging and their approaches, surveyed about the aspects of culture and the
denial of aging by women. It was also analyzed the relation between women and this stage of
life. The design of this research was a qualitative exploratory study with the utilization of a
semistructured interview to collect data, which were obtained through a sample panel of 47
participants who shared the same sociocultural reality. From the interviews recorded and
transcribed, broke for Content Analysis and interpretation of data, based on the theoretical
framework presented in this study. The reports were organized into three major themes:
women, aging and body, which developed into subcategories. It was found that for women
from the group studied, the fact of belonging to the female gender is tied to social roles
displayed by them and the feeling pointed by the perception of themselves as women.
Regarding the category body, emerged the attitudinal component, the questions that tie in the
loss of functionality and appearance, highlighting the importance of the mirror, vanity, brands
offered by the aging and weight gain. On the issue of aging, this were represented by those
interviewed, from losses resulting from aging (as loss of autonomy, of social aspects and of
life) and also the assignment of meaning to menopause as a milestone in the female aging.
