to perceive the projects thought to the city of Caic? as well as the challenges due to the new ideas of modernity that were circulating around the contemporary world. So
it consists in an important historical exercise about the relation between history and space in to the extent that itself comes to surface a city deals by diverse angles whose perspectives can be read in several "fragments of memory", such as newspapers, trials-crime, reports, memories, books, etc., those show the tension between the traditional and the modern way of life one. In this way, it?s tried to transform the space, giving it a new reference, inspired in what occurs in the Brazilian big cities and around the world, through the use of the techniques, of the electricity, of the movies, of the press, cars, medicine and so on. At the same time in
that is necessary-itself deal with the permanencies such as the old manners and the droughts and theirs "flagellated" people. Therefore, it is in this difficult phase that is
tried legitimize the city of Caic? as the "Capital of the Serid?", in the threshold between the refusal and the seduction / Esta pesquisa tem como objeto de estudo a cidade de Caic?, situada no interior do Rio Grande do Norte, entre meados da d?cada de 1920 e in?cio de 1930. Nela se busca perceber os diferentes projetos pensados para a cidade, bem como os
desafios com os quais ela se defronta em virtude das novas id?ias de modernidade em circula??o no mundo. Consiste, assim, num importante exerc?cio hist?rico sobre a rela??o entre hist?ria e espa?o, na medida em que faz vir ? tona uma cidade lida por diversos ?ngulos, cujas perspectivas podem ser visualizadas nos fragmentos de mem?ria , tais como jornais, processos-crime, relat?rios, mem?rias, livros, etc., que
mostram a tens?o entre o velho e o novo. Desta forma, pensa-se em transformar o espa?o, dando-lhe novos referenciais, inspirados no que ocorre nas grandes cidades
do Brasil e do mundo, atrav?s do uso das t?cnicas, da eletricidade, do cinema, da imprensa, do autom?vel, etc., ao mesmo tempo em que se precisa lidar com as perman?ncias, a exemplo dos velhos costumes e das secas e dos flagelados . Foi nessa fase conflituosa que as elites tentaram legitimar a cidade de Caic? enquanto a Capital do Serid? , no limiar entre a recusa e a sedu??o
