Previous issue date: 2012-05-17 / Objective: As the use of bone allografts in oral rehabilitation has increased, this study evaluated the effect of non-ablative laser on bone apposition when ground bone allografts are used. Studies in the literature show that the application of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) promotes tissue repair and new bone formation. Material and Methods: Four rabbits were used as bone donors, and ground bone allografts and autografts were implanted in the skull of 20 rabbits divided into four groups: two LLLT groups (allograft, autograft and blood clot), and two control groups (allograft, autograft and blood clot) that did not receive LLLT. The animals were killed at 35 (n=10) and 70 (n=10) days. Laser parameters were: laser diode application (GaAlAs), wavelength of 830 nm of 4 J/cm2 at four points in the skullcap at a total of 16 J/cm2 per application. Total treatment dose after eight applications was 128 J/cm2. Results: There was an increase in the apposition of collagen fibers, bone remodeling and vascularization, and there was less inflammatory infiltrate in the LLLT groups that received allografts at 35 days than in the allograft control group. At 70 days there was greater collagen fiber apposition, greater density of osteocytes lacunae, and a statistically significant difference in bone remodeling and vascularization when compared with the allograft control group. In the LLT autograft groups, there was also greater density of osteocytes lacunae, greater apposition of collagen fibers and greater bone remodeling at 35 and 70 days. Conclusion: Evaluation under light microscopy and SEM revealed a positive qualitative and quantitative effect of LLLT, which accelerated osteogenesis and the incorporation and remodeling of ground bone allografts and autografts / Objetivo: devido ao aumento da utiliza??o de aloenxertos ?sseos nas reabilita??es orais avaliou-se o efeito do laser n?o ablativo no processo de incorpora??o ?ssea de aloenxertos triturados.
