Previous issue date: 2005-10-27 / Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico / A presente dissertação teve como objetivo analisar as condições sociosanitárias, o padrão alimentar e suas implicações no perfil nutricional de crianças nos dois primeiros anos de vida, residentes no Município de Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. Os dados foram coletados por meio da pesquisa Estudo de Consumo Alimentar Populacional - ECAP- BH , realizada no período de 2004 05, sendo apresentada na forma de dois artigos. No primeiro artigo, analisaram-se as condições de vida das crianças menores de dois anos de idade, relacionando-as com o seu estado nutricional e de saúde. Esses resultados revelaram baixa prevalência de déficits nutricionais, com exceção dos déficits de estatura/idade. Verificou-se que o estado nutricional das crianças foi afetado por algumas condições de habitação, pelo peso ao nascer e pelo tipo de aleitamento em que a criança recebia no momento da entrevista. No segundo artigo, caracterizou-se o padrão alimentar de crianças nos dois primeiros anos de vida. Os resultados deste estudo evidenciaram curta duração do aleitamento materno exclusivo e introdução precoce de novos alimentos ainda no primeiro mês de vida. Do ponto de vista nutricional, as dietas se mostraram desbalanceadas, sendo o ferro o nutriente mais deficiente no primeiro ano de vida. / The objective of the present work was to analyze the socio-sanitary conditions, the dietary standard and its implications on the nutritional profile of children in the first two years of age, resident in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. Data was collected through the survey "Study of Population Food Consumption - ECAP - BH" carried out in the period 2004-05 and presented in two manuscripts. In the first manuscript, the living conditions of the younger-than-two-year children were analyzed, relating them with their nutritional and health status. These results showed low prevalence of nutritional deficits, except for height/age deficits. Children's nutritional status was affected by some housing conditions, weight at birth and type of breastfeeding the child was receiving at the time of the interview. In the second manuscript, the children's dietary habits were characterized in their first two years of life. The results of this study showed a short duration of exclusive breastfeeding and the early introduction of new food still in the first month of life. From the nutritional point of view, the diets were shown unbalanced, with iron as the most deficient nutrient in the first year of life.
