Bakgrund: I världen insjuknar alltfler i typ 2 diabetes. För att patienter med typ 2 diabetes ska få möjlighet till god hälsa så behöver sjuksköterskor kunna identifiera de faktorer som kan hjälpa patienter att utföra god egenvård. Dorothea Orem beskriver i sin egenvårdsteori att varje patients förmåga att utföra egenvårdshandlingar utgår ifrån dennes individuella psykologiska, fysiologiska och sociala behov. För att patienter med typ 2 diabetes ska acceptera sin sjukdom och uppnå s k empowerment ställs höga krav på sjuksköterskans förmåga att möta individens unika behov. Syfte: Syftet med denna studie var att beskriva faktorer som påverkar egenvården hos vuxna med typ 2 diabetes. Metod: En allmän litteraturstudie baserad på 15 vetenskapliga artiklar med kvalitativ och/eller kvantitativ ansats. Artiklar som inkluderats i litteraturstudien är publicerade mellan år 2000 och 2017. Resultat: Från studien framkom teman och subteman innehållandes faktorer som påverkar patienters egenvård. Bristande kommunikation, samverkan samt sjukdomsinsikt är faktorer patienter upplevde som hinder för att utföra en god egenvård. Faktorer som ansågs ha en positiv effekt på egenvården var acceptans, kunskap, patientutbildning, motiverande samtal, uppmuntran och bekräftelse samt en upplevd känsla av empowerment. Slutsats: Patienter är beroende av olika faktorer för att kunna upprätthålla en god egenvård. För att kunna tillgodose patienters egenvårdsbehov har vårdpersonal en avgörande roll i att se och bemöta individen bakom sjukdomen. Implikationer: För en ökande världssjukdom som typ 2 diabetes, är det viktigt att sjuksköterskeutbildningar tydliggör de faktorer som påverkar patienters egenvård i en positiv riktning. Detta för att framtida sjuksköterskor ska kunna skapa goda förutsättningar att implementera åtgärder som påverkar en god egenvård. / Background: Today, type 2 diabetes is increasing significantly worldwide. In order for patients with type 2 diabetes to improve their health, nurses need to able to identify the factors that promotes the patients ability to perform self-care. In her self-care theory, Dorothea Orem describes that each individual patient’s ability to perform self-care stems from his/her psychological, physiological and social needs. For patients with type 2 diabetes to come to terms with their disease and achieve empowerment, high demands are put on a nurse's ability to see these unique needs of patients. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to characterize factors that impact self-care in adults with type 2 diabetes. Method: A general literature review was performed on 15 peer-reviewed scientific articles with qualitative and/or quantitative approaches. The articles included were published between the year 2000 and 2017. Result: From the review, themes and subthemes were found containing various factors that affect the self-care of diabetes patients. Inadequate communication, interaction and disease insight are factors that patients experienced to be obstacles for self-care. In contrast, factors that were considered to have a positive effect on self-care were acceptance, knowledge, patient education, motivational conversation, encouragement and confirmation, and sense of empowerment. Conclusion: Adult patients with type 2 diabetes are dependent on key factors to establish and maintain self-care. To help patients meet their self-care needs, healthcare professionals have a decisive role in identifying and responding the person behind the disease. Implications: With the increasing global prevalence of type 2 diabetes, it is important that the nursing education clarifies and emphasizes the factors which affect patient self-care in a positive direction. This will enable future nurses to implement measures that affect good self-care.
