Syftet med studien är att belysa biologiundervisningens karaktär i förskolans undervisningsverksamhet utifrån förskollärararnas uppfattningar. Detta görs genom frågeställningarna; Vilket innehåll behandlas inom biologiundervisningen i förskolan, utifrån förskollärarnas uppfattningar? Vilka undervisningsstrategier används i biologiundervisningen i förskolan, utifrån förskollärarnas uppfattningar? Vilket syfte får biologiundervisningen i förskolan, utifrån förskollärarnas uppfattningar? Studien tar sin utgångspunkt i att belysa biologi som ämnesområde då det inte framställs explicit i förskolans Läroplan Lpfö 18, trots att innehållet behandlar biologi. Biologiundervisningen i förskolan undersöktes via ett didaktiskt ramverk, där intervjuerna grundades i frågorna vad, hur och varför. I studien samlades data in genom semistrukturerade intervjuer med sju verksamma förskollärare. Data analyserades med inspiration av en tematisk analysmetod. Resultatet visar att biologi inte framställs som ett eget ämnesområde utan integreras i övrig undervisning. Det framkommer att biologi som ämne upplevs som ett brett ämne och benämns som naturvetenskap. Resultatet visar att människokroppen, djur och hållbar utveckling är innehåll som berörs inom biologiundervisningen. De undervsiningsstrategier som blir framträdande inom dessa teman är planerad och spontan undervisning samt tillämpande av olika verktyg. Resultatet visar att biologiundervisning bedrivs i syfte av att öka barnens medvetenhet i biologi samt att uppnå läroplanens mål. / The purpose of this study is to illuminate the nature of biology education within the instructional activities of preschools, from the preschool teachers’ perceptions, through the questions; What content is covered in biology education in preschool? What teaching strategies are used in biology education in preschool? What is the purpose of teaching biology in preschool? The study is focusing on highlighting biology as a subject area, given that it’s not explicitly presented in the preschool curriculum Lpfö 18, despite the content addressing biology. This evokes the question of how a preschool teacher should approach teaching content which is not clearly presented. In this study, preschool biology education is viewed through a didactic framework, where the interviews were based on the questions what, how, and why. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews with seven active preschool teachers. The data was analyzed using a thematic analysis methodology. The findings indicate that biology is not portrayed as a distinct subject area but is rather integrated into the overall curriculum. It’s observed that biology is perceived as broad and emphasized as a natural science.The results show that the human body, animals, and sustainable development are areas of study addressed within biology education. The teaching strategies that emerge within these themes are planned and spontaneous lessons, and application of various tools. The results indicate that biology education is conducted with the purpose of increasing children's awareness in biology and achieving the goals of the curriculum.
