Uma versão do problema da identidade pessoal pode ser assim formulada: será realmente possível que uma pessoa permaneça a mesma ao longo do tempo, a despeito das várias e constantes transformações biológicas, psicológicas e sócio-culturais às que estará sujeita ao longo de sua vida? Como, dadas as mudanças, poderia haver identidade de algo de um momento a outro, e em que consistiria esta identidade? Alguns teóricos da chamada tradição clássica propõem soluções para o problema da identidade da pessoa a partir de uma perspectiva dualista, considerando a identidade pessoal um fator adicional de caráter absoluto não suscetível a mudanças. A identidade pessoal residiria na mente ou substância pensante, imaterial, cujas interações com o corpo, porém, nunca foram satisfatoriamente esclarecidas pelos defensores desta abordagem. Contrapondo-se à essa vertente filosófica, abordagens naturalistas consideram a pessoa em sua unidade fundamental, ou seja, a pessoa é considerada em sua organicidade, com suas características biológicas e culturais, não se colocando mais o problema da interação causal mente/corpo. Nesse contexto, porém, o problema da identidade pessoal se (re) coloca, pois como pensar a permanência ou a continuidade de uma identidade da pessoa durante sua vida em face à impermanência e a dinamicidade do organismo? Buscaremos mostrar que uma abordagem naturalista embasada na Sistêmica, bem como na Teoria da Autoorganização, pode oferecer um aporte teórico adequado para investigar o problema da identidade pessoal de forma a enfrentar algumas das dificuldades apontadas sob uma nova ótica / The objective of this dissertation is to analyze the problem of personal identity from the perspective of contemporary Philosophy of Mind. One version of the problem of personal identity may be formulated thus: Is it really possible that a person can remain the same with the passage of time, despite a constant lifetime exposure to various biological, psychological, and socio-cultural transformations? Given these changes, how can identity remain the same from one moment to another, and of what does it consist? Theoreticians from the so-called classical tradition propose solutions to the problem of the identity of a person from a dualist perspective, considering personal identity to be an additional factor that is absolute and not susceptible to change. Personal identity should reside in the mind, or thinking substance; however, the interactions of this substance with the body have never been satisfactorily clarified by the supporters of this theory. Adopting a different philosophical position, naturalist approaches consider the person as an organic unity, including characteristics that are biological and cultural, avoiding the problem of a causal mind/body interaction. Nonetheless, in this context the problem of personal identity (re)emerges, since how is it possible to justify the permanence, or continuity, of the identity of the person throughout life, faced with the impermanence and dynamicity of the organism? We shall try to show that a naturalist approach, rooted in Systemics as well as in the Theory of Self-Organization, may offer a suitable theoretical framework to investigate the problem of personal identity, considering some of the difficulties from a new angle
