Ao longo de quase uma década, o pesquisador, homem urbano e escolarizado, participou como educador de jovens e adultos do curso Supletivo do Colégio Santa Cruz, em São Paulo. Seus alunos eram, em sua maioria, migrantes vindos de áreas rurais do país e, atualmente, trabalhadores pertencentes às classes populares. Tiveram sua escolarização regular interrompida em seus lugares de origem e somente na idade adulta, após a migração, acabaram por retomá-la. A convivência com esses estudantes deixou o pesquisador intrigado pelos quadros sociais em que viveram antes de migrar. Essa pesquisa nasceu com a intenção de conhecer o lugar ocupado pela escola no contexto daquelas sociedades rurais. Historicamente, o curso Supletivo do Colégio Santa Cruz tem recebido muitos estudantes vindos de uma região localizada na divisa dos estados da Bahia e de Minas Gerais. O pesquisador realizou entrevistas coletivas com grupos de conterrâneos de três municípios dessa área: Tremedal (BA), Belo Campo (BA) e São João do Paraíso (MG). Eles debateram temas relacionados à escolarização e à migração. Em seguida, o pesquisador viajou, em companhia de alguns desses sertanejos, para os lugares de onde vieram. Esse percurso contribuiu para melhor compreender a vida social e econômica da região, o lugar ocupado pela escola e as raízes da tradição migratória. Enfim, permitiu ao pesquisador conhecer em profundidade o nascedouro do jeito de ser, de recursos expressivos e de formas de conhecimento cujos indícios lhe chegavam pela convivência escolar com os estudantes. Essa pesquisa é uma habitação de fronteiras culturais vividas em uma escola urbana e transportadas às áreas rurais de origem dos alunos. Através da inversão das posições de nativos e estrangeiros, o trabalho discute os efeitos dessa experiência sobre o olhar de um educador de adultos. E pretende contribuir para a compreensão do papel de uma escola na participação do migrante sertanejo na cidade. / This work is a qualitative research on Social Psychology. Throughout almost one decade, the researcher, educated urban man, participated as educator of young and adults of the Supplementary course of Santa Cruz School, in São Paulo. Its pupils were, in its majority, migrants of agricultural areas of the country and, currently, pertaining workers to the lower classes. They had had its regular schooling interrupted in its places of origin and only in the adult age, after the migration, they decided to retake it. The closeness with these students left the researcher intrigued for the social context where they had lived before migrating. This research was born with the intention to know the place the school tapped in the context of those agricultural societies. Historically, the Supplementary course of the Santa Cruz School has received many students of a region located in the verge of Bahia and Minas Gerais states. The researcher carried through interviews with groups of countrymen of three cities of this area: Tremedal (BA), Belo Campo (BA) e São João do Paraíso (MG). They debated issues related to their schooling and migration. Then, the researcher travelled, with some of these inlanders, to the places where they had come. This passage contributed to understand better the social and economic life of the region, the place occupied by the school and the roots of the migratory tradition. Ultimately, it allowed the researcher to know in depth the origins of their way of being, their expressive resources and their forms of knowledge whose indications arrived to him for the pertaining relationship with the students. This research is an experience of cultural borders lived in an urban school and carried to the agricultural areas where the pupils came from. Through the inversion of natives and foreigners positions, the work argues the effect of this experience on the adult educator´s point of view. It claims to contribute for the understanding of a school role in the participation of the inland migrant in the city.
