enfermagem, que exercem suas atividades no âmbito hospitalar do Distrito Federal, acerca do seu trabalho, e foi desenvolvido com grupos de profissionais oriundos de três tipos diferentes de instituições: a) vínculo público; b) hospitais privados; c) hospital escola. Para identificarmos a estrutura e conteúdo das representações, recorremos a dois estudos. No primeiro, trabalhamos com a entrevista semi-estruturada e, no segundo, empregamos a técnica de livre associação.
Os resultados do estudo preliminar revelam que os profissionais identificam o cuidado como seu objeto de trabalho, porém, este assume características diferentes, alinhando-se com a missão institucional em que o profissional está inserido. Sendo assim, nas instituições públicas, o cuidado
apresenta-se em uma dimensão assistencialista; no hospital escola, ele é visto sob uma ótica tecnicista; enquanto que, nos hospitais privados, apresenta-se como produto do trabalho. Vale também destacar que os três grupos referem exclusão no mundo do trabalho, percebida como
discriminação no acesso ao aperfeiçoamento e/ou status social, advinda, por sua vez, da estratificação social do trabalho. No último estudo, os resultados denotam que as representações dos três grupos de profissionais giram em torno de núcleos centrais que expressam, basicamente, o vínculo religioso e vocacional do trabalho da enfermagem, com perpetuação das relações de gênero. Sendo assim, os resultados nos permitem dizer que os profissionais de enfermagem, que exercem suas atividades no âmbito hospitalar do DF, não possuem clarificação sobre os cuidados,
realizando-os destituídos de seu valor maior, ou seja, o empoderamento de quem cuida e de quem é cuidado. Além disso, a identificação da profissão como um sacerdócio contribui, ainda, para o
delineamento de uma profissão sem identidade e valor social, o que dificulta o exercício pleno da cidadania de seus profissionais. _________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / The purpose of the present study was to apprehend the social representations, their content and structure, of hospital nursing personnel in the Federal District and their implications to the exercice of citizenship. Two studies were carried out, simultaneouly, during a period of five months. In
the first one, done with a group of 30 nursing personnel from three different settings - public hospitais, private hospitais, university hospital - unstructured interviews was used aiming to identify the content of their representations, particularly in relation to their work.. The results of study 1 indicate that the workers interviewed identify nursing care as the object of their work, however this assumes different characteristics in each of the groups, according to the type of institution in which the professional is inserted. Thus, in the public institutions care has a helping dimension, in the university hospital care is
seen from a technical perspective, whereas in the private hospital, care is presented as the product of work. The three groups expressed feeelings of exclusion in their work place, perceived as discrimination in the access to qualification and/or the social status imposed by the social stratification of labor. In the second study, we worked with the same institutions as in the first but with a greater number of subjects (135) and the use of the free association technique. The purpose of the second study was to identify the structure of the representations concerning nursing practice and their relationship to citizenship. The findings denote that all three groups of professionals have representations that evolve around central themes which express, basically, ties to religious and vocational aspects of the profession, with perpetuation of gender relations. We identified, as well, that the participants share the same conception about citizenship. Thus, we concluded that nursing personnel who work in the hospitais of the Federal District lack clarification about the care they provide, carrying out their activities without awareness of their greater value, which is the empowerment of the care provider and of the one who receives the care. The identification of the profession as a ministry contributes to the delineation of a practice with no identity, barred from the full exercice of its citizenship.
