Previous issue date: 2017 / As transformações do capitalismo que ocorreram no final do século XX e início do século XXI e as atuais demandas no mundo do trabalho têm relações intrínsecas com os sistemas educativos. Entre essas mudanças, há o surgimento de diferentes ocupações e principalmente a expansão da oferta de cursos de formação profissional, em especial no nível técnico. Neste contexto, escolher por uma profissão constitui-se numa tarefa cada vez mais complexa e que implica uma decisão importante na vida do indivíduo. A presente pesquisa visou compreender a escolha profissional de estudantes por cursos técnicos do SENAI (Unidade Operacional Região Sudeste) de Santa Catarina, as razões que os levaram a escolher por este nível de formação e as suas expectativas de futuro no tocante à educação e ao trabalho. O estudo, cuja proposta metodológica consistiu na combinação de diferentes procedimentos, chamada de estratégia exploratória sequencial, foi desenvolvido em duas fases. Na primeira fase foi realizada uma etapa exploratória que envolveu a realização de quatro grupos focais com o objetivo de captar as narrativas dos estudantes, pais e professores envolvidos no processo de escolha profissional pelos cursos técnicos, acerca dos fatores que influenciam a escolha por este nível de formação e as expectativas de futuro após a conclusão do curso. A segunda fase foi desenvolvida por meio de um levantamento (n=285) e teve como foco o mapeamento do perfil e dos aspectos socioeconômicos, das trajetórias escolares e profissionais de alunos ingressantes de cursos técnicos do SENAI. O questionário utilizado no levantamento foi elaborado com base no referencial teórico pesquisado e nas declarações obtidas de 22 participantes dos grupos focais. Verificou-se que se trata de um sistema de ensino procurado predominantemente por homens (89,5%), jovens (65%), trabalhadores (67,7%), com renda mensal relativamente baixa (53%), oriundos de escolas públicas (56,5%), filhos de pais cujo nível escolar não ultrapassa o médio (74% dos pais e 69,8% das mães), com ocupações profissionais de baixa complexidade relacionadas ao setor produtivo e ao ambiente doméstico, educação e saúde. Dado a caracterização do perfil dos estudantes participantes da pesquisa, que constitui elementos das suas trajetórias objetivas pelas quais se condicionam seus percursos sociais, analisou-se as razões atribuídas pelos alunos para a escolha por este nível de formação e suas expectativas de futuro. Tais razões, bem como as expectativas de futuro se demonstraram relacionadas à confluência de aspectos de inserção e desenvolvimento profissional (com maior relevância para inserção na área de formação), de desenvolvimento vocacional e identificação com a área, de influência parental e de uma pretensão de dar continuidade aos estudos, principalmente por meio de um curso de nível superior na área do curso técnico. A análise dos resultados possibilitou uma compreensão do fenômeno da escolha profissional como parte de um processo de construção do projeto profissional dos estudantes investigados, que visa o afastamento da zona de vulnerabilidade e a ascensão social, onde os trajetos objetivos e subjetivos que orientam as escolhas e expectativas de futuro desses estudantes se demonstraram congruentes com as possibilidades do contexto social em que vivem.<br> / Abstract : Capitalism transformations occurred in the late twentieth and early twenty-first century and the current demands in the world of work have intrinsic relations with education systems. Among these changes, there are the emergence of different occupations and especially the offering of vocational training courses, especially at the technical level. Thus, choosing a career is an increasingly complex task, which implies in an important decision in a person?s life. The present research aimed to understand the professional choice of students by technical courses from SENAI/SC (Southeast Region Operating Unit), the reasons that led them to choose by this level of training as well as their expectations of future considering education and work. This study, whose methodological proposal consisted in the combination of different methods, called of sequential exploratory strategy, was developed in two stages. In the first stage, an exploratory phase was carried out involving four focus groups with the objective of capturing the narratives of the students, parents and teachers involved in the process of professional choice by the technical courses, also about the factors that influence the choice of this level of training and future prospects after the course is completed. The second stage of this research was developed through a survey (n = 285) and focused on mapping the profile and socioeconomic aspects of the school and professional trajectories from students entering SENAI technical courses. The questionnaire used in the survey was elaborated based on the theoretical reference researched and the statements obtained from the 22 focus group participants. It was verified that it is a system of education mainly sought by men (89.5%), young people (65%), workers (67.7%) with relatively low monthly income (53%) from public schools (56.5%), children of parents whose school level does not exceed the average (74% of fathers and 69.8% of mothers), with low complexity occupations related to the productive sector and the domestic environment. From the students profile data participating in the research, which constitutes elements of their objective trajectories by which their social paths are conditioned, the reasons given by them for the choice by this level of formation and their future expectations were analyzed. These reasons, as well as future expectations, have been related to the confluence of aspects of insertion and professional development (with greater relevance for insertion in the training area), vocational development and identification with the area, parental influence and a pretension to continue the studies, mainly by means of a superior level course in the technical course area. The results analysis of this work allowed an understanding of the phenomenon of professional choice as part of a construction process of the professional project from the investigated students, which aims to move away from the zone of vulnerability and provide social ascension; the objective and subjective paths that guide the choices and future expectations of these students have been shown to be congruent with the possibilities of their social context.
