A cooling system is used to maintain the ideal operating temperature and prevent overheating, through a thermal fluid also called cooling fluid and a heat exchanger. Cooling fluids are usually composed of a solution of water and an additive, as well as corrosion inhibiting additives and colorants. Ethylene glycol is a type of alcohol widely used as an additive because it is completely soluble, with little or no corrosive and chemically stable activity, and also reduces the water vapor pressure. The reduction of the vapor pressure of the solution guarantees boiling point increase (ebullioscopy), allowing a higher thermal exchange efficiency of the fluid at higher temperatures without phase change, also a decrease in the freezing point of the water (cryoscopy) . Because it is toxic, ethylene glycol currently undergoes competition from organic additives with high thermal conductivity, developed to have a thermal behavior similar to ethylene glycol, with the advantage of being non-toxic and biodegradable. This work developed experimental analyzes for the energy characterization of two commercial cooling fluids, one based on ethylene glycol and another based on polymer. Analyzes were carried out to estimate its thermophysical properties in order to verify the energy efficiency of the heat transfer process in the apparatus Developed as an integral part of this work.
