Emotioner i arbete : En studie av fritidsledares upplevelser av emotioner och arbetsmiljö

Abstract   The sociological problem of this C-essay is sociology of emotions. This paper deals with experiences of emotions and work environment for people who work in human service organizations, and has been limited to the profession of recreation leader. The purpose of this paper is to examine how emotions affect the recreation leader’s work. For this we used eight qualitative interviews with recreation leaders from different youth recreation centers. What we have found in this study is that recreation leader’s work includes both positive and negative aspects. In the case of positive aspects, we can mention job satisfaction, social support, and freedom at work, and negative aspects of recreation leaders are stress, harassment, threats and violence. Another interesting conclusion of this essay is that gender has an impact on how emotions are handled. It turned out that female recreation leader uses emotions and feelings to a far greater extent than their male colleagues. The reason of this is that women are expected to act humbly and that they are expected to behave in a way where other people's status and satisfaction increases.                                 Keywords: Emotional sociology, recreation leader, youth, emotions at work
