Gränslöst arbete : En studie om kommunikationsteknikens påverkan på den psykosociala arbetsmiljön

Today the adoption and use of communication technology has broken down workplace boundaries and the dynamics of those, in specific regards to time and place. Through the integration of information technology, a new shape of work environment has been created. Technology makes it possible to work flexibly, independently and in a boundless digital environment, regardless of where one is located. This newly altered working environment presents new opportunities and challenges for both employees and their employers. This study aimed to create a deeper understanding of what the term boundless work implies and the effects it has on the psychosocial work environment. Through this study we also explore the perception of a sense of boundlessness within a consultant profession, along with employers’ awareness concerning this boundlessness within the work environment. This study used a qualitative research method, conducted through interviews to gather the data for this thesis. Our study indicates that access to communication technology contributes to the absence of boundaries in the workplace, in terms of availability and is a strong indication as to why employees are working beyond ordinary working hours and into their leisure time. In our recommendations section we argue that it is of importance to pay more attention to boundaries in work environments, as to better support employees’ time of recuperation away from work. We believe that the psychosocial environment of a workplace should be prioritized and that sustainable consultants make for profitable organizations.
