Tillbaka på fotbollsläktaren : En kvantitativ innehållsanalys av kvällspressens gestaltning av fotbollssupportrar före jämfört med efter publikrestriktionerna till följd av coronapandemin / Back in the stands : A quantitative content analysis of the tabloids' portrayal of football supporters before compared to following the audience restrictions due to the corona pandemic

The purpose of this study was to examine if there have been any changes in the way the evening press frames Swedish football fans as a result of the corona restrictions. We chose to analyse articles from the last four and a half months during the 2019 season in comparison with the same period in 2021, when the Swedish government eased the restrictions and fans were welcomed back to watch the games. We chose to implement a quantitative content analysis with articles from the two websites of the biggest newspapers in Sweden regarding sports, Aftonbladet and Expressen. The study shows several interesting results, including a significant increase in positive framing when talking about football fans after the restrictions but when fans are criticised, they are not offered the opportunity to respond. The study also shows that the evening press rarely use the word "hooligan" in their reporting.
