Esta dissertação pretende investigar aspectos do contato entre o português e o italiano em uma comunidade bilíngüe na Região de Colonização Italiana situada no nordeste do Rio Grande do Sul (Brasil). Esse contato acarreta uma série de interferências entre os dois sistemas lingüísticos em questão, desencadeando uma situação de variação que avança (e por vezes também regride) em várias dimensões, motivada por parâmetros extralingüísticos, como sexo e idade dos falantes, ambiente rural/urbano, situações de comunicação, etc. Restringiu-se a análise lingüística ao âmbito das interferências fonéticas da língua italiana na portuguesa, as quais serão examinadas sob a perspectiva da Dialetologia Pluridimensional. A partir do estudo de tal fenômeno, pretende-se detectar quais são as variáveis mais sujeitas a valorações sociais no revezamento entre as variedades dialetais envolvidas no contato. O presente trabalho tem implicações para o estudo de línguas minoritárias, línguas em contato, bilingüismo, ensino de línguas a crianças bilíngues. / This dissertation attempts to investigate some aspects of the contact between the Portughese and the Italian languages in a bilingual community in the Italian Immigration Region, situated in the northeast of Rio Grande do Sul state, in Brazil. This contact brings on a number of interferences between the two linguistic systems, unleashing a situation of variation which moves forward (and sometimes also backward) in several dimensions, motivated by extralinguistic parameters, such as the speakers’ sex and age, country/city environment, communication circumstances, etc. The linguistic analysis is circumscribed to phonetic interferences of Italian in Portuguese, which are examined from the perspective of the Pluridimensional Dialectology. From the study of such phenomenon, it was our intention to ascertain what variables are more subject to social valuations in the alternation between the dialectal varieties involved in the contact. There might be some implications for the study of minority languages, languages in contact, bilingualism, language teaching for bilingual children.
