A major Norwegian co-operative faces major challenges in regards to increased competition and a changing market situation. To which extent will the climate for innovation in the company define the employee’s ability and will to change? And, how will management focus on innovation influence employee behavior? The result of the case study shows that the company has no clear focus on innovation or strategy to build an innovation climate. The study is of general interest as it underlines theories by Kaufmann & Kaufmann (2003), Ekvall (1996, 1997) og Gjelsvik (2004), as well as the need for top management involvement and crystal clear communication in regards to building an innovative organization.
