The problam that still great percentage of leading persons (commanders) serving in the military of Lithuania haven't got any special or higher education is discussed in the paper. A lot of opinions of different authors on education are presented. Formal and informal education is determined as well. Definitions of formal and informal education as well as it's aims, problems, puposes, system, etc., are presented too. The military of Lithuania has been considered in historical aspect. The situacion of formal and informal education in the military of Lithuania has been comprehensively analysed and presented while performing an empiric research of the opinion of leading persons (commanders) and evaluation of formal and informal education, the hypothesis hasn't been confirmed that great numbers of leading persons in the military of Lithuania is made of servicemen and officers who haven't acquired any special education or preparation that is needed to work with servicemen.
