In this respect, this study, informed by corpus-based studies and systemic linguistics, proposes to investigate how the entity "the translator" is construed in the small scale parallel corpus composed of Becoming a Translator (1997), an academic book textualized by Douglas Robinson, and its counterpart Construindo o Tradutor (2002), retextualized by Jussara Simões, by looking at transitivity patterns emerging in the modeling of the translator in both texts. The analysis is assisted by the software WordSmith Tools (Scott 1998) for data collection, and on the numeric code for corpus annotation CROSF 14 (Feitosa, 2005). The analysis of transitivity choices in the language used to construe the image of "the translator" showed that such entity has been quantitatively and proportionally retextualized. Nevertheless, the qualitative analysis revealed a slight divergence as regards the construal of the image of the translator in the retextualization.
