Personlig träning på egen hand

Abstract

The purpose of this essay was to determent if the authors’ idea to replace a personal trainer with a training program, which is provided by software, is viable and if there is a market for such a product. The method that was used, included eight people who enrolled in a training program which were designed by the authors in Microsoft excel. The programs were based on principals of periodization, and included the phases: anatomic adaptation, hypertrophy, maximum strength and muscle definition. The training program was personal and based on individual goal setting. Before each phase tests were made including body weight, body composition, body measures and strength. This was made by different reasons. Partly to monitor the progress of the training, to motivate the persons and to determined the training load for the following phase. When the study was completed (lasted for 13 weeks) the subjects in the experiment were asked to answer a questionnaire about how they experienced their participation in the study. The questionnaire contained five statements and the purpose was to answer questions like: where the results of the training program satisfying and if the training program was easy to understand. It showed that every one of the subjects of the experiment had reached positive results and that they were all satisfied with their final results. The majority of the people involved in the study, found the concept easy to understand and that the guidance through e-mail and text messages was sufficient enough.

In addition to the questionnaire, a quantitative evaluation was also made were 126 people answered questions about personal training. It involved why the questioned used/did not use personal training, how much they thought they could spend on personal training and what they expect from a personal trainer.

The result of the marketing research indicated that few persons where using personal training. The majority thought they were fine on their own and that it was too expensive. If they were going to pay for personal training, it would be for increased knowledge and that 500-1000 Swedish kronor per month would be a reasonable amount to pay.
