Attityder, motivation och moderna språk : En studie om svenska grundskolelevers attityder till och motivation för ämnet moderna språk / Attitudes, motivation and modern foreign languages

The purpose of this study is to examine Swedish students' attitudes and motivation towards studies in the subject of modern foreign languages. The study also aims to examine whether there are differences in students' attitudes and motivation towards their language studies between Swedish compulsory school students in grade 6-9. Data was collected by means of a web-based survey with both quantitative and qualitative questions. The compiled results show that students are relatively positive about the subject with many showing signs of intrinsic motivation towards their language studies. The results also show that many of the students in the study are able to picture themselves as future users of the language they study. The results also highlight, however, that several of the students in the study do not share this positive attitude for the subject and that the subject is valued as less important than other subjects by many of the students in the study. The study also shows that it is students in grade 6 that have a more positive outlook towards their language studies.
