O método utilizado foi o qualitativo, tipo de estudo de casos múltiplos, guiados por princípios do referencial do Cuidado Holístico-Ecológico. Foram entrevistadas 15 fonoaudiólogas que atuam em Florianópolis, com mais de dez anos de formação. As entrevistadas estão satisfeitas com a escolha profissional, reconhecem-se como fonoaudiólogas e não se imaginam exercendo outro tipo de atividade profissional, pois existe um certo "encantamento" pela profissão. Três aspectos que fazem parte da realidade de trabalho são sentidos por muitas delas: busca pelo reconhecimento, baixa remuneração, falta de união como classe trabalhadora. Pôde-se perceber que o profissional da fonoaudiologia ainda precisa conquistar uma inserção social. Sugere-se que a formação acadêmica destes profissionais inclua aspectos relacionados à administração e, também, que os fonoaudiólogos realizem estudos que possibilitem compreender melhor o ser humano, a sua saúde e qualidade de vida, sob os aspectos da saúde fonoaudiológica e da saúde do trabalhador. Sugere-se também que o fonoaudiólogo avalie, junto com outros profissionais da área de comunicação, aspectos das mudanças na comunicação emergentes do avanço tecnológico e da mídia. Como resultado, o fonoaudiólogo tem a possibilidade de se constituir como o profissional que lida com a comunicação e não só com os distúrbios da comunicação.
This study aimed to understand, with speech-language pathologists professionals, the meanings of being a speech-language pathologist, as well as their satisfaction with the current work. The method utilized was the qualitative one, type of study of multiples cases, guided by Holistic-Ecological Care referencial principles. Fifteen speech-language pathologists that act in Florianópolis, with more than ten years of formation were interviewed. The interviewed are satisfied with the professional choice, recognize themselves as speech-language pathologists and do not imagine themselves exerting other type of professional activity; a certain "enchantment" for the profession exists. Three aspects that make part of the current reality of work are felt by many of these professionals: the seek for the recognition, low remuneration and lack of union as labor class. It could be perceived that the speech-language pathologists is a professional who still need to conquer its social insertion. It is suggested that academic formation of the professional of this area includes aspects related to administration and also that the speech-language pathologists carry out studies that propitiate understanding the human being, its health and quality of life, under the aspects of the speech-language health and the health of the worker. It is also suggested that speech-language pathologists joins with other professionals of the communication area to evaluate changes in communication aspects emerging from technological and mídia advances. As a result, the speech-language pathologists have the possibility of being a professional who deals with the communication and not only with the disturbs of communication.
